Shaoyang Xianghuo (Ministerial Fire of Shaoyang) governs the Si Tian (Heavenly Qi). Jueyin Fengmu (Wind-Wood of Jueyin) governs the Zai Quan (Earthly Qi). The central Yun is Tai Zheng Huoyun (Excessive Fire Movement). The year's Fire is excessive, and its Qi transformation operates ahead of time. Tai Zheng descends upon Shaoyang.
Its nature... Its fruits... Its pulse characteristics... Its musical note is Zhi... Its number is seven... Transformation of things. The Qi of Heaven and Earth: above appears Shaoyang, the left intercalary Qi is Yangming, the right intercalary Qi is Taiyin. Thus, Heavenly Qi is upright and its... Yin Qi... The right intercalary Qi is Taiyang, thus Earthly Qi is disturbed and its command is chaotic. Wind rises suddenly, trees fall, sand flies. Blazing fire arises.
Fire and Wood share the same virtue, corresponding above to Yinghuo (Mars) and Suixing (Jupiter). The corresponding grains are red and green. The transformation of the year's Qi: Fire transformation is seven, Wind transformation... Insects breed; this is what is suitable for the year's produce. Insects are consumed, clear toxins do not arise; this is due to Earthly Qi restraining them.
Before the middle of the year, Heavenly Qi is governed by Shaoyang. Where Shaoyang arrives, it is hot and summer-heat; its command manifests as warmth, which is the administration of Shaoyang. After the middle of the year, Earthly Qi is governed by Jueyin. Where Jueyin arrives, it is the abode of wind; wind transforms from fire, which is the command of Jueyin. Wind and heat are distributed together, clouds and objects boil... Internally manifesting as diarrhea and fullness. The sage, encountering this, harmonizes without...
In this year, Fire is Heavenly Qi, Wood is Earthly Qi. Wind and Fire meet, their Qi is unified, and their transformation is pure. Furthermore, the Yun is commanded by Fire, matching the Heavenly Fu (Heavenly Match). Fire transformation ascends and illuminates. First, take the source of transformation; suppress the excessive operational Fire, assist Metal Qi, then violent diseases will not arise, and harsh ailments will not occur. For the year, use salty-cold herbs to regulate the upper part, pungent-cool herbs to regulate the lower part, and sweet herbs to regulate the middle. Use methods such as draining, purging, soaking, and inducing sweating. If the Yun coincides with Wind-Heat, cold transformations should be used more frequently; this is the constant method of treatment.
The first Qi period begins from Shen Chu on Da Han day in Ding Chou year, until Wu Chu on Chunfen day of this year, totaling sixty days and eighty-seven ke half. The main position is Shao Jiao Wood, the guest Qi is the central Fire Yun, where Qi and Yun are identical. Earthly Qi shifts; wind prevails causing shaking, cold departs, climate becomes greatly warm, grass and trees bloom early. Diseases manifest as Qi stagnating above, blood effusion, red eyes, cough and reverse flow, headache, blood injury with flank fullness, sores in skin and pores. It is appropriate to regulate Shaoyang... Use sweet flavor to drain, sour flavor to astringe. Year grain should be red, intercalary grain should be beans.
The second Qi period begins from Wu Zheng on Chunfen day, lasting over sixty days. The main position is Tai Zheng Fire, the guest Qi is Taiyin Earth, with central Fire Yun. Damp Earth is the guest Qi, Fire is suppressed. Rain house... Wind cannot overcome dampness, rain falls, people are healthy. Their disease is heat stagnating above, cough and vomiting, sores erupting in the center... Body heat, drowsiness, suppurative sores. Treat the guest Qi of Taiyin: use sweet flavor to tonify, bitter flavor to drain, sweet flavor to relax. Year grain should be...
The third Qi period begins from Si Chu on Xiaoman day, until Mao Chu on Dashu day, lasting over sixty days. Main position is Tai Zheng Fire, guest Qi... Yun. Year Fire is in its proper position, above is Tian Fu (Heavenly Match), below is Si Qi (Sovereign Qi). Heavenly administration spreads, blazing heat arrives, Shaoyang oversees above, rain ceases... Dazzled vision, blood effusion, suppurative sores, cough and vomiting, nasal congestion and epistaxis, sneezing and yawning, throat obstruction, red eyes, prone to sudden death. This year, Fire Qi is balanced... Even if not violent. The Classic says: Below Ministerial Fire, Water Qi succeeds it. Excess causes harm, succession brings control. Regulate Shaoyang... Use sweet flavor to drain, salty flavor... Year grain should be red, intercalary grain should be beans. In this Qi, Sovereign Qi is Heat; when using Hot herbs, avoid the heat of summer...
The fourth Qi period begins from Mao Zheng on Dashu day, until Chou Zheng on Qiufen day, lasting over sixty days. Main position is Shao Gong Earth, guest Qi is Yangming Metal, central... Cool air arrives, blazing heat alternately transforms into white dew descending, people's Qi is peaceful. Disease is heaviness of the whole body. Regulate the guest Qi of Yangming: use... Use bitter flavor to drain. Year grain should be green, intercalary grain should be millet.
The fifth Qi period begins from Yin Chu on Qiufen day, until Zi Chu on Xiaoxue day. Main position is Tai Shang Metal, guest Qi is Taiyang Water, central Fire Yun. Fire naturally conquers Metal, but Water counter-conquers it. Cold Qi acts as guest... Rain falls, pore gates close, rigid wood withers early, people suffer from cold pathogens, gentlemen keep warm and secure. Regulate the guest Qi of Taiyang... Use bitter flavor to firm, pungent flavor to moisten. Year grain should be green, intercalary grain should be broomcorn millet.
The final Qi period begins from Zi Zheng on Xiaoxue day, lasting over ten days. Main position is Shao Yu Water, guest Qi is Jueyin Wood, central Fire Yun. Fire and Wood share the same virtue, proceeding with smooth transformation. Earthly Qi is upright, wind arrives, all things regenerate, fog/mist moves. Disease involves inability to close orifices, heart pain, Yang Qi failing to store leading to cough. Treat Jueyin... Use sour flavor to drain, sweet flavor to relax. Year grain should be green, intercalary grain should be rice.
This year, Tian Fu acts as Zhifa (Law Enforcement). Fire Qi self... Law, people have sudden acute diseases. As the Classic states regarding those struck by Zhifa, the disease is rapid and dangerous.
