The *Huangdi Sanbu Zhenjiu Jing* (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) states: Swelling and pain in the lower abdomen, with inability to urinate, indicates pathogenic factors affecting the Triple Burner (Sanjiao, 三焦). This disease is named "Sanjiao Yue" (Contraction/Restriction of the Triple Burner). Internal blockage leads to the inability to pass both stool and urine.
Treatment methods and formulas are as follows:
**Shunqi Wan (Smooth Qi Pill)**: Treats Sanjiao Yue. Symptoms include swelling and pain in the lower abdomen, and inability to pass both stool and urine.
Ingredients: Mugwort Wood (Muxiang, 木香, 2 liang), Green Tangerine Peel (Qingju Pi, 青橘皮, soaked in decoction, white pith removed, dried, 1 liang), Ginseng (Renshen, 人参, 2 liang), Red Poria (Chifuling, 赤茯苓, black skin removed, 1 liang), Apricot Seed (Yuliren, 郁李仁, 8 liang), Kansui Root (Gansui, 甘遂, bran-fried until slight smoke appears). The above six herbs are crushed, sifted into fine powder. Take an appropriate amount each time, administered with salt water.
**Yuliren Wan (Apricot Seed Pill)**: Treats Sanjiao Yue. Its function is to unblock and guide both stool and urine.
Ingredients: Apricot Seed (Yuliren, 郁李仁, soaked in decoction, skin removed, ground), Rhubarb (Dahuang, 大黄, cut and fried, 1 liang each), Red Poria (Chifuling, 赤茯苓, black skin removed), Alisma (Zexie, 泽泻, cut), Lepidium Seed (Tinglizi, 葶苈子, fried on paper). The above five herbs are crushed, sifted into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take an appropriate amount each time, administered with fried salt water; wine administration is also acceptable.
**Zhike Wan (Bitter Orange Pill)** (from *Xuanming Lun*): Regulates and harmonizes the Triple Burner, smooths qi meridians evenly, eliminates phlegm stagnation, benefits the chest and diaphragm, dispels wind, and promotes urination and defecation.
Ingredients: Bitter Orange (Zhike, 枳壳, pith removed, bran-fried, 2 liang), Morning Glory Seed (Qianniu Zi, 牵牛子, selected, 4.5 liang, half raw and half fried, crushed and sifted to obtain 1.5 liang of powder, discard the rest), Areca Nut (Binglang, 槟榔, half, re-sifted). Process the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take an appropriate amount each time, administered with warm water.
**Zhike San (Bitter Orange Powder)**: Treats Sanjiao Yue. Symptoms include obstruction of both stool and urine.
Ingredients: Bitter Orange (Zhike, 枳壳, soaked in decoction, pith removed, sliced and dried, 5 liang), Magnolia Bark (Noupi, 浓朴, coarse bark removed, coated with ginger juice and roasted, 2 liang), Talcum (Huashi, 滑石, finely ground, 1 liang), Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi, 桂, a small amount). Grind the above herbs into powder. Take an appropriate amount each time, administered with cold rice water.
**Shufeng San (Dispel Wind Powder)**: Treats Sanjiao Yue. Symptoms include obstruction of both stool and urine.
Ingredients: Morning Glory Seed (Qianniu Zi, 牵牛子, lightly fried, 1 liang), Rhubarb (Dahuang, 大黄, cut and fried, 1 liang), Areca Nut (Binglang, 槟榔, cut, 0.5 liang), Aged Tangerine Peel (Chenju Pi, 陈橘皮, soaked in decoction, white pith removed, dried, 1 liang). Grind the above herbs into powder. Take an appropriate amount each time, administered with warm water or rice water.
**Zaojia San (Soap Pod Powder)**: Treats Sanjiao Yue. Symptoms include obstruction of both stool and urine.
Ingredients: Pig Tooth Soap Pod (Zhuya Zaojia, 猪牙皂荚, fried with lard, skin and seeds removed), White Tribulus (Baijili, 白蒺藜) (in equal proportions). Grind the above herbs into powder. If large intestine obstruction occurs, mix one qian with salt water or tea water and administer.
**Huainan Wuru Wan (Huainan Five-Softness Pill)** (from *Huren Shu*): Treats dysfunction of the Triple Burner. Symptoms include constipation and difficult passage of stool and urine. Its functions are to harmonize Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi), and benefit the zang-fu organs.
Ingredients: Rhubarb (Dahuang, 大黄, cut and fried, 1 jin), Peucedanum Root (Qianhu, 前胡, radicle removed, 2 liang), Red Poria (Chifuling, 赤茯苓, black skin removed), Asarum (Xixin, 细辛, seedlings and leaves removed), Pinellia Tuber (Banxia, 半夏, washed in decoction, sliced, and dried). Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey while stirring, then pound for a thousand strokes. Form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take five pills each time, after meals, administered with warm water, three times daily. The dosage may be slightly increased as needed.
