The condition known as "Zhong Shui Du" (Water Poisoning) has three names: Zhong Xi (Stream Poisoning), Zhong Sa (Sprinkle Poisoning), and Zhong Shui (Water Poisoning). Its manifestations include aversion to cold, headache, eye pain, mental restlessness with a feeling of stuffiness in the brain, tremors and tossing of the four limbs, and itching. If red spots appear on the body, it is identified as Water Poisoning. This syndrome, when severe, may develop into Dong Li (profuse diarrhea), bleeding from between the teeth, mental fullness and irritability in the heart and abdomen, bloody stools resembling rotten liver, and delirium without food intake. All these are transformations caused by Heat Toxin. The methods for prevention used by experts are similar to those for She Gong (a mythical toxic creature/disease).
Formulas:
Shengma Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction - *Note: Text says Shengma Tang but ingredients list Shengma/Cimicifugae Rhizoma primarily, likely Cimicifuga Decoction*): Treats poisoning and alternating chills and fever.
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻) (3 liang), Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao, 龙脑), Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma (Weirui, 葳蕤), Isatidis Folium (Daqingye, 大青) (each 1 liang). Coarsely crush and sieve the above herbs. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1.5 zhong of water, decoct until reduced to 0.8 zhong, strain, and take warm.
Congbai Tang (Scallion White Decoction): Treats Zhong Shui Du and Zhong Xi Du. Symptoms resemble Shang Han (Cold Damage Syndrome).
Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Congbai, 葱白) (one handful, cut), Glycines Max Semen Preparatum (Chidou, 豉) (0.5 sheng), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gegen, 葛根) (2 liang), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻) (3 fen). Cut the herbs into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 2 zhong of water... [text incomplete].
Wumei Tang (Mume Fructus Decoction): Treats Zhong Shui Du. Symptoms include coldness of the fingers and toes.
Use Mume Fructus (Wumei, 乌梅) 3 liang, remove pits and crush. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strain, and take in one dose at any time.
Wujiapi San (Eucommiae Bark Powder) (from *Shenghui Fang*): Specifically treats Zhong Shui Du and Zhong Xi Du. Symptoms include alternating chills and fever, resembling Shang Han.
Use Eucommiae Cortex (Wujiapi, 五加皮) 3 liang, wash, cut, and grind into powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with 1 zhan of wine. Three times daily, once at night. Taking with gruel drink is also acceptable.
Another Prescription:
Mudan San (Moutan Cortex Powder): Treats Zhong Shui Du and Zhong Xi Du. Symptoms include sores caused by insect erosion in the lower part (genital/anorectal area).
Use Moutan Cortex (Mudanpi, 牡丹皮) 2 liang, grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with 1 zhan of wine. Three times daily.
Geteng Wash Formula: Treats Zhong Shui Du and Zhong Xi Du. Symptoms include sores caused by insect erosion in the lower part.
Use Geteng (Kudzu Vine) as needed. Boil in water to obtain a thick decoction. Wash the lower part and irrigate internally. Effective.
Treating Zhong Shui Du:
Crush Indigofera Tinctoria Leaf (Lanqing, 蓝青) to extract juice. Mix with a small amount of water and apply to the head, face, and body, ensuring full coverage.
Treating Zhong Shui Du with coldness of fingers and toes, extending to knees and elbows:
Dry Spirodela Polyrrhiza (Fuping, 浮萍) and grind into powder. Take 3-4 qian per dose with wine. It is also said that coldness of fingers and toes in Zhong Shui disease indicates this condition; if warm, it is not this disease.
Treating Zhong Shui Du:
Use [missing herb name] leaves, one handful. Cook and pound thoroughly. Mix with 1 zhan of wine and swallow. Within three doses, recovery occurs.
Treating Xi Du:
Extract 1 sheng of juice from Portulaca Oleracea (Machixian, 马齿苋). Apply the dregs to the sores. Best. Four to five times daily. (From *Ge Shi Fang* for treating She Gong poison).
Treating people affected by Water Poison, also called Zhong Xi, Zhong Sa, or Water Disease. Similar to She Gong but without a physical object.
Use 3 sheng of Small Garlic (Xisuan, 小蒜), chopped. Soak in bathwater. Do not let the water be too hot, as heat reduces efficacy. Remove dregs. Adjust temperature to suitability. Bathe the body. If red spots appear... [text incomplete].
Formula for Treating Zhong Shui Du:
Take Prunus mume leaves and Prunus persica leaves. Crush and extract about 3 sheng of juice. Dilute with a small amount of water and drink. For children who cannot drink, apply the juice to the nipple for them to suck.
Another Formula:
Use Changsi Cao (Herba Siegesbeckiae or similar, 常思草). Extract 3 sheng of juice. Wrap cotton around the middle finger and use to irrigate the lower part. Drinking the juice leads to recovery within three days.
Formula for Water Poison:
Take calcified Shark Skin (Jiaoyupi, 鲛鱼皮). Mix with water and take 2 qian.
Another Formula:
Crush Qigu Cao (Herba Siegesbeckiae Orientalis or similar, 七姑草) and apply to the waist and back. Recovers quickly. Qigu grows in winter, with fine leaves like sour berries.

Another Formula:
Crush Xiancao (Eradicant Plant/Cocklebur, 苍耳) to extract one large zhan of juice. Divide into two doses.
Another Formula:
Extract one zhan of juice from Liaocao (Polygonum Hydropiper, 蓼). Drink gradually and apply to the whole body, ensuring full coverage. Recovers immediately. Use wine to mix.
Another Formula:
Take one handful of Xiong Niuxi (Male Achyranthes Root, 雄牛膝). Soak in one zhan of water and wine mixture. Squeeze out juice and drink. Three times daily. Male Niuxi stems are purple; white ones are female.
Another Formula:
Grind Dameigen (Large Berry Root, 大莓根) into powder and drink. Irrigate the lower part. Fresh plants provide juice. In summer, while walking... [text incomplete].
