For advancing invasion, leg/knee spasms, bone/joint pain, it is highly effective. For qi disorders, remove Bohe, add Zaojian, named Wuyao Shunqi San. Blood deficiency generating wind and qi bi-syndrome mimic stroke, commonly called stroke. "Heat generates wind" is a general principle. Actually, pain, paralysis, and spasms are mostly due to blood deficiency and qi stagnation. Occasionally, irregular lifestyle leads to invasion by thief wind, but always involves deficiency. Thus, treating wind prioritizes warming, dispersing, and unblocking the middle. Unblocking prevents phlegm/qi steaming and allows wind to dissipate. Xiao Xuming Tang is an ancient and modern excellent method for treating wind, but lacks qi-unblocking herbs, so it should not be used alone. This combined approach ensures success. One variation uses Zisu and Mugua decoction for powder. Another for sprains/injuries preventing flexion/extension, taken with warm wine. Another for itching/scratching sores, decocted with mint. One variation adds Tianma (1 liang) and Chenxiang (0.5 liang) per batch for regular use to disperse wind, unblock stagnation, regulate Ying/Wei, and promote appetite.

Also treats chronic hot foot-jerk (gout/podagra) weakness. Take for cure. Patients with wind disease should take prophylactically during cloudy weather or seasonal changes... [Text cuts off].

One variation without Zaojian is named Fangji Tang. This formula treats all winds, but indications vary. Combined use is required.
1. Shou Feng (Head Wind): Caused by washing hair. Sweating, aversion to wind. Headache starts one day before wind, worse indoors, improves at sunrise. Use Shu Fuzi (1 piece) and Salt (equal parts). Powder. Rub on painful area after washing.
2. Lou Feng (Leaking Wind): Caused by drunkenness. Sweating, shortness of breath, dry mouth/thirst. Heat feels like fire when clothed. Sweats profusely when eating. Lazy joints. Use Zexie, Baizhu (1 liang each), Mixian (0.5 liang). Powder. Take 2 qian with wine, empty stomach. Named Mixian Tang.
3. Nei Feng (Internal Wind): Caused by sexual activity. Aversion to wind, sweating soaking clothes, dry mouth, inability to endure hardship, body pain. Use Sheng Fuzi, Renshen (0.5 liang each), Huixiang, Fuling, Shanyao (1 fen each), Gancao, Jiang (*Zingiberis Rhizoma*) (0.3 fen each). Powder. Take 4 qian with 3 slices ginger, little salt, decocted. Before meals. Named Fuzi Tang.
Variation: Sudden aphonia in stroke. Decoct Gui powder strongly. Three doses effective.
[Mahuang Xuming Tang] (From *Bacui Fang*) Treats stroke. Without assessing six meridians for modifications, treatment is no different than no treatment. Open meridian presents with chills; closed with heat and stuffiness. Knowing acute wind invasion, first use Jiajian Xuming Tang according to syndrome. Stroke with no sweat and aversion to cold... [Text cuts off].
Ingredients: Mahuang, Fangfeng, Xingren. Double the base formula amount. Acupuncture: Bleed Zhiyin (Taiyang), lift Kunlun.
[Xiao Xuming Tang] (From *Bacui Fang*) Stroke has three types. *Neijing* states: Human qi is named by heaven/earth's violent wind. Thus, stroke is not external wind, but internal qi disease. Common after age 40 due to qi decline; rare in youth. Obese people may have it, also due to strong form but weak qi. Treatment harmonizes zang-fu, unblocks meridians—this is treating wind. Severity has three levels:
1. Meridians/Blood vessels: Deviation of mouth/eyes, also from thief wind invading deficiency. External six-meridian syndromes exist. Treat with modified Xiao Xuming Tang or Shufeng Tang.
2. Fu organs: Internal blockage of urination/defecation. Treat with Sanhua Tang or Maren Wan from Bureau Formula to unblock. No external six-meridian signs, no internal blockage. Nourish blood, move qi. Treat with Da Qinjiao Tang or Qianghuo Yufeng Tang.
3. Zang organs: Phlegm misting consciousness. Treat with Zhibao Dan to settle.
For Meridian/Fu disorders, initially do NOT use Longnao, Shexiang, Niuhuang. Shexiang enters spleen/flesh, Niuhuang enters liver/tendons, Longnao enters kidney/bones. Fear of drawing wind deep into marrow, like oil in flour, impossible to remove. Do not generally use Daji, Yuanhua, Gansui to purge bowels, damaging yin blood and true qi. Formulas follow.
