Postpartum Qi deficiency accompanied by lingering cold. Cold qi contends with blood, causing the blood to coagulate and fail to dissipate. If Qi rebels upward, blood follows Qi rushing up, striking the Heart and causing heart pain. Whenever postpartum residual blood is not completely expelled, due to deficiency and cold it remains and knots; contending with Qi, it inevitably causes pain. If encountering prolonged cold, the blood knot becomes even more severe, transforming into a blood mass (Xue Jia), leading to menstrual obstruction and stagnation without flow. It is also said that residual blood rushing to the Heart is actually caused by improper diet, irregular living habits, and consumption of incompatible foods. As long as one treats according to the formulas, there will be no case that cannot be cured.
