[Appendix Discussion]
Dystocia (difficult childbirth) arises from prior leakage of the amniotic sac and blood loss, leading to dryness of the uterus; or pre-existing diseases/toxins in the uterus; or violation of taboos; or initial abdominal pain causing panic and agitation before the time of delivery; or premature discharge of lochia, resulting in a dry and slippery birth canal, and exhaustion of the mother's strength. All these conditions lead to dystocia. If the mother's tongue appears cyanotic, it indicates fetal death with maternal survival. If the lips and mouth are cyanotic, emergency beating between two mats is required for safety.
Qumai Decoction: Treats dystocia, retained placenta postpartum, or failure of blood discharge after abortion.
Ingredients: Epimedii Herba (Qumai Sui), Natrii Nitras (Xiaoshi), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Talcum (Huashi), Glycyrrhzae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, roasted, 1 liang each), Myrtilli Fructus (Wangbuliuxing), Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusuo), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, 1 liang each), Prunus Armeniaca Semen (Yuliren) with 5 slices of fresh ginger.
Cuisheng Decoction: Treats pregnancy at term with sparse labor pains, dystocia lasting 2-3 days, fetal death in utero, maternal qi deficiency and fatigue, and dry birth canal.
Ingredients: Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu, 2 liang, soaked in rice water, sliced, roasted yellow), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike, bran-fried, pith removed), Platycodonis Radix (Bai Jiegeng), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Bo Chenpi, white part removed), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, peeled).
Shunliu Powder: Administered warm with hot water.
Yisheng Decoction: Treats qi and blood disharmony in women, epigastric/abdominal pain, amenorrhea, and recurrent dystocia during pregnancy.
Ingredients: Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu, 12 liang, washed, peeled), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 2 liang), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike, pith removed, bran-fried), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, roots removed), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Fuzi, processed, peeled), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao). The four main ingredients are ground into powder.
Shensheng Powder: Treats dystocia and malpresentation (transverse or breech).
Ingredients: Dried pig fetus, carp skin, human hair (each 1 liang, burned in a bottle until charred), Ink stick soot (Changmo), Longstomachium (Fulonggan, finely ground, half liang each), Ink (1 liang each).
Grind into powder, refine. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with hot wine. Take when labor pains begin to ensure maternal and fetal safety. Take once daily on an empty stomach postpartum to treat various blood disorders within the first month.
Cuisheng Prescription: Treats wind-cold invasion of the uterus during labor, frequent abdominal pain, and inability to deliver.
Ingredients: Myrtilli Fructus (Wangbuliuxing), Bupleuri Radix (Jingsanleng, baked), Pharbitidis Semen (Qianniuzi, fried), Lilii Bulbus (Baihe), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma (Weilingxian) (each 1.5 liang), Omphalia Lapponica (Leiwuan), Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Aconiti Radix (Tianxiong). Take 5 qian per dose, decocted in water.
Chenxiang Decoction: Washing from the heart ensures safety.
Ingredients: Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang), Hydrophis (Shuima) (each 1 liang), Bird feathers, Lingzhi Xiang, Zhan Xiang, Borax (Longnao), Styrax (Suhe Xiang), Alfalfa Fragrance (Muxu Xiang) (each 1 liang), Epimedii Herba (Qumai). Wash and decoct.
Sanqi Shengjian: Treats prolonged dystocia, suitable for critical cases.
Ingredients: Epimedii Herma (Qumai), Talcum (Huashi) (each 1 liang), Bovis Lac (Niuru), Sojae Semen Praeparatum (Heidouhuang), Butter (Su) (each 2 liang), Abutilonis Semen (Dongkuizi, 1 he), Mel (Baimi, 2 he).
Decoct. To induce labor.
Alternative: Grind Musk (Shexiang, 1 qian), mix with water, and take. Delivery will be immediate.
Baochan Wuyou Powder: Treats fetal obesity and qi rebellion causing dystocia. Often due to wealthy lifestyles, excessive rich food intake, and lying down immediately after eating, leading to a thickened placenta.
Ingredients: Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, wine-soaked), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishaoyao) (each 2 qian), Costi Radix (Nanmuxiang, 1.5 qian), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike, fried), Frankincense (Ruxiang, separately ground, 3 qian).
Zexie Decoction (also known as Shengmai San): Treats dystocia and persistent restlessness.
Ingredients: Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 1 liang), Epimedii Herba (Qumai, roots removed, ground, 2.5 liang), Ulmi Cortex (Yubaipi, chopped, 2 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, roasted reddish, 1.5 liang), Cinnamomi Cortex (Gui, peeled).
Decoct, strain.
Qisheng San: Suitable only if lower back pain occurs during labor.
Ingredients: Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusuo), Myrrha (Moyao), Alum (Baifan, purified), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (Jianghuang) (all roasted), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin) (equal parts). Grind into fine powder. Take during labor contractions. Recommended by Physician Qiao.
Pili Duoming Dan: Treats women who indulge their temper, neglect regulation, leading to exhaustion of Wei Qi and depletion of Ying Blood, making fetal movement difficult. Caused by excessive effort during labor... If cheeks are slightly red.
Ingredients: Serpent Skin (Shetui, one strip in porcelain jar), Qianlima (one old left-foot straw sandal from road, washed and burned to ash, 1 qian), Hair Ash (Fahui, 1 qian), Gold and Silver Leaf. Based on the Fifteen Questions... like seeing silkworm... Treats dystocia.
Ingredients: Sophorae Branch (Huai Zhi, cut 2 sheng), Ulmi Cortex (Yubaipi, cut), Cannabis Sativa Seed (Dama Ren, each 1 sheng), Epimedii Herba (Qumai), Tetrapanacis Medulla (Tongcao) (each 3 liang), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 5 liang). Chop.
Niusu Jian: Treats dystocia lasting several days without delivery.
Ingredients: Genuine Beef Fat (Zhen Niusu, 3 liang), Autumn Okra Seeds (Qiukuizi, 1 he), Honey (Baimi, 2 liang), Talcum (Huashi), Epimedii Herba (Qumai Sui), Fermented Soybean (Daye Huangjuan) (each 1 liang).

Cuisheng Duoming Dan: Treats women experiencing dystocia at term while sitting on the birthing mat. This formula is prepared from May 5th to the Heart day, effective.
Ingredients: Moutan Cortex (Mu Danpi, use less in autumn), Poria (Baifuling, use less in spring), Cinnamomi Cortex (Gui, use less in summer), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishaoyao, use less in winter), Persicae Semen (Taoren, peel removed, separately ground).
Yubaipi San: Treats dystocia. "Weisheng Baojian" promotes smooth delivery. Treats pregnancy with prior threatened miscarriage/blood loss, or early panic before labor, before the time of delivery...
Ingredients: Ulmi Cortex (Yubaipi, 1 liang), Hibisci Root (Kuigen, 1 liang), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 3 fen, remove seedlings), Epimedii Herba (Qumai, 1 liang), Akebiae Caulis (Mutong, half liang), Cannabis Sativa Seed (Dama Ren, 3 fen).
Another prescription: Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 1 liang), Epimedii Herba (Qumai), Talcum (Huashi, 1 liang), Abutilonis Semen (Dongkuizi, 1 liang), Butter (Su, 1 liang), Honey. Grind into powder. First put butter and honey in a pot.
Shengjin San: Treats dystocia. Expelling stasis allows natural birth. Corrects malpresentation. Softens dead fetus for delivery.
Ingredients: Myrtilli Fructus (Wangbuliuxing), Sorbalba Fruit (Suanjiang, roasted if fetal death), Leonuri Fructus (Chongweizi), Tribuli Fructus (Bajili, thorns removed), Trogopterori Faeces (Wulingzhi, raw for moving blood). Equal parts.
Cheqianzi San: Treats dystocia not delivering for days.
Ingredients: Plantaginis Semen (Cheqian, fried half liang), Ulmi Cortex (Yubaipi, scraped clean, 1 liang), Talcum (Huashi, half liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, roasted half liang), Epimedii Herba (Qumai Sui, 1 liang). Grind into powder. Previous medicine.
Gancao Tang (also known as Kuizi San): Treats dystocia with abdominal pain and non-moving fetus.
Ingredients: Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, roasted half liang), Ulmi Cortex (Yubaipi, broken, 1 liang), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin, 1.5 liang), Abelmoschi Semen (Kuizi, 1 he), Talcum (Huashi, 6 fen). Grind into powder. Each dose.
