[Supplementary Discussion]
The formation of corneal opacity (Yi Mo) in the eyes, whether recent or chronic, is caused by wind pathogenic factors and toxic heat accumulating between the Zang-Fu organs and rushing upwards, where they stagnate and fail to dissipate. The manifestations vary; thus, there are internal obstructions (Nei Zhang) and external obstructions (Wai Zhang), with opacities being either superficial or deep, and conditions ranging from treatable to untreatable. Physicians often employ methods such as hooking, cutting, needling, scissoring, moxibustion, and cauterization to seek temporary relief. However, they fail to realize that if these methods are not applied cautiously, they may instead lead to blindness. Generally, for eye opacity diseases, some cases are suitable for surgical interventions like hooking, cutting, needling, scissoring, moxibustion, and cauterization; some are specifically suited for herbal medicine treatment; and some require prior administration of herbs and eye washing/dropping before resorting to surgical methods. If one can thoroughly study the principles of medical classics, meticulously examine the six pulse positions, understand the deficiency and excess states of the Zang-Fu organs, and then carefully observe and judge which cases are suitable for herbal intake, which for eye drops/washing, and which for surgical intervention, how could there be any reckless injury?
