The condition known as "Cu Wu" (Sudden Invasion by Guest Evil), also called "Ke Wu", refers to the sudden invasion of evil qi into a person's spirit. This belongs to the category of diseases caused by toxic vapors of ghosts and plagues, similar to "Zhong E" (Sudden Poisoning by Evil).

Fanshi Wan (Alum Pill, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats sudden Cu Wu.
Ingredients: Fanshi (Alumen, 0.5 liang, roasted in yellow clay and finely ground); Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 0.5 liang, processed until cracked, skin and umbilicus removed); Xionghuang (Realgar, 0.5 liang, finely ground); Zhenzhu (Pearl, 0.5 liang, finely ground).
(The text here is garbled, presumably describing the process of mixing the powders evenly.)
Zhengqi San (Righteous Qi Powder) treats Ke Wu, severe pain in the heart and abdomen, distension with qi rushing to the chest and heart, irritability, high fever, or breathlessness with stabbing pain. This is caused by the qi of demons.
Ingredients: Shexiang (Musk, 1 qian); Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, equal parts); Renshen (Ginseng Root, equal parts); Tianmendong (Asparagus Tuber, equal parts, heart removed); Guiji (Daemonorops Spine, equal parts); Changpu (Acorus Rhizome, equal parts).
Preparation: Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds.
Taiyi Shenjing Dan (Great One Divine Spirit Cinnabar Pill, from *Qianjin Fang*) treats Ke Wu, Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome), abdominal distension and pain, Shizhu (Corpse Transmission disease), aversion to wind, mania, ghostly afflictions, various gu poisons, and demonic魅.
Ingredients: Dansha (Cinnabar, 4 liang); Zengqing (Malachite, 4 liang); Cihuang (Orpiment, 4 liang); Cishi (Magnetite, 4 liang); Jinya (Gold Tooth/Leaf, 2.5 liang).
Preparation: Crush and sieve each herb separately. Dansha, Cihuang, and Xionghuang are treated with strong vinegar. [The original text contains garbled alchemical instructions regarding furnace temperature, bottom ash, and color changes (five colors being best, three next, one lowest). The final product should be bright and white like snow. Mix with jujube paste to form pills the size of millet grains. Another version states: Dansha, Zengqing, Xionghuang, and Cihuang each 2 jin; soak Dansha in vinegar in a porcelain vessel for 100 days in the sun; soak Zengqing in fine wine; fry Xionghuang and Cihuang in oil for nine days and nights, remove grease, and grind thousands of times.]
Administration: If the patient is unconscious, strike their mouth open, remove teeth, and administer with grain water. Recovery occurs upon vomiting. If not recovered, do not exceed two doses. Some recover without medication. Wear the pill/powder in a crimson bag (one Dao Gui dose) on the left for men and right for women. Alternatively, mix with vinegar, apply to a square-inch paper, and place on a child's heart. If ingestion fails, smell the scent; if they can eat after five days, it is good. Overeating leads to stagnation. One Dao Gui equals six millet grains; another theory says three small beans equal one Dao Gui.
Method for making an earthen crucible:
Take two earthen basins, each holding about two large dou. Coat the inside with sweet earth and dry thoroughly. Another method: make one earthen pot and one熟iron pot, each holding nine sheng.
Method for making Liu Yi Ni (Six-One Mud):
Ingredients: Chishizhi (Red Kaolin Clay, 2 liang); Muli (Oyster Shell, 2 liang); Huashi (Talcum, 2 liang); Fanshi (Alum, 2 liang); Huangfan (Yellow Alum, 2 liang); Qiuyinshi (Earthworm Excrement, 2 liang); Lutu (Saline Soil, 2 liang).
Preparation: Take sufficient strong vinegar, mix with the above herbs, and boil until the consistency resembles porridge.
Commentary: Ancient immortals used this method to save the common people, keeping it highly secret. During the Daye era, I frequently attempted this preparation but struggled to obtain Realgar and Malachite. Later, I learned that Realgar must be fried in oil for nine days and nights before being used in cinnabar pills; otherwise, it is toxic. Do not use raw. The pills have hot toxicity and are unsuitable for consumption; caution is advised.
Huanhun San (Soul-Returning Powder, also known as Huanhun Tang, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats sudden Ke Wu, Gui Ji (Ghost Strike), Fei Shi (Flying Corpse), where breath is faint, life seems ended, consciousness is lost, or the patient appears dead with locked jaws.
Ingredients: Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, 3 liang, root nodes removed); Xingren (Apricot Seed, 3 liang, soaked, skin and tips removed, twin kernels, roasted); Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 3 liang); Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 liang, honey-fried until slightly reddish, chopped).
Preparation: Decoct in one sheng of water. Effect is immediate.
Jiegeng San (Platycodon Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats sudden Ke Wu resulting in inability to speak.
Ingredients: Jiegeng Mo (Platycodon Root Powder, 1 liang); Shexiang (Musk, 1 fen).
Preparation: Grind uniformly. For each dose, mix with warm water and take 2 qian orally.
Xixin San (Asarum Powder, from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats sudden Ke Wu, "stopping corpse" (unresponsiveness) with inability to speak.
Ingredients: Xixin (Asarum Root, equal parts); Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, equal parts).
Preparation: Grind into fine powder and place in the mouth.
Jiegeng San (Platycodon Powder, from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats sudden Ke Wu, "stopping corpse" with inability to speak.
Preparation: Roast 2 liang of Platycodon Root, grind into powder, and take with rice water. Swallow Musk the size of a soybean simultaneously for better effect.
Fuzi San (Aconite Powder, from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats sudden locked jaw ("stopping corpse") with inability to speak.
Preparation: Use raw Fuzi (Aconite Root) powder. Place in a tube and blow under the tongue. Alternative: Grind into powder and blow into the throat.
Shexiang San (Musk Powder, from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats Ke Wu with evil qi leading to near-death state.
Preparation: Grind 1 qian of Musk finely, mix with 2 he of vinegar, and ingest. Cure follows.
Another Prescription:
For treating sudden Cu Wu, which is now commonly referred to as Zhong E (Sudden Poisoning by Evil), similar to sudden death and Ghost Strike, treatments can be referenced interchangeably.
Preparation: Take 8 he of salt, add 3 sheng of water, boil down to 1.5 sheng. Divide into two doses. Vomiting leads to recovery.
Another Prescription:
For treating sudden death from Ke Wu (from *Zhouhou Fang*).
Preparation: Mix human blood with Pearl to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Administer two pills by prying open the teeth and inserting into the throat to slide down.
Another Prescription:
For treating sudden Cu Wu "stopping corpse" with inability to speak (from *Zhouhou Fang*).
Preparation: Use Pearl powder mixed with rooster comb blood to form pills the size of soybeans. Insert 3-4 pills into the mouth. Condition resolves.
