[Soap Pod Powder] Take five jin of soap pods (Gleditsia sinensis), roast them scorched with vinegar, remove the skin and seeds; separately take five jin of raw soap pods, remove the skin and seeds. Grind these two ingredients together into a fine powder (totaling ten jin). Add one sheng of water, knead to extract a thick soap pod juice paste. Add one fen of aged tangerine peel (Chenpi, dried tangerine peel) (removed from white pith) and one fen of areca nut (Binglang, Areca catechu seed) (used raw). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with the soap pod paste to form a dough. If too dry to form pills, add refined honey. Form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills per dose, administered on an empty stomach with warm wine or boiled water. Treats obstipation (constipation); bowel movement occurs immediately after administration.
[Dahuang, Mutong, Zhike, Gancao, Jingjie Powder] Rhubarb (Dahuang, Rheum palmatum root), Akebia stem (Mutong, Akebia trifoliata stem), Bitter orange fruit (Zhike, Citrus aurantium fruit), Licorice root (Gancao, Glycyrrhiza uralensis root), Schizonepeta spike (Jingjie, Schizonepeta tenuifolia inflorescence) (all in equal proportions). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take three qian per dose, decoct with one zhan of water, strain, and drink.
[Muxiang Zhuqi Pill] From *Wei Shi Fang*. Treats deficiency stagnation caused by food accumulation, promoting bowel movement. Also treats Hong Kong foot (podagra/foot swelling), Xiao Chang Qi (hernia), and abdominal pain caused by attacking stabbing qi.
Formula: Tangerine red (Juhong, tangerine peel without white pith), Green tangerine peel (Qingpi, immature citrus peel) (removed from white pith), Areca nut (Binglang) (select heart-shaped ones, half liang each), Southern costus root (Nanmuxiang, Saussurea costus root), Sichuan bitter bean (Chuan Badou, Semen Crotonis tiglii) (one qian half, ground like paste). Formula: Bitter orange fruit (Zhike) (five liang), Roasted licorice (Gancao) (one and a half liang), Apricot kernel (Xingren) (skin removed, stir-fried), Donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao) (stir-fried until crisp), Raw rehmannia root (Sheng Dihuang) (one liang each). Cut the above ingredients into sizes similar to hemp seeds, decoct with water, strain, and drink.
[Dahuang Wan] From *Qian Jin Fang*. Treats spleen and stomach disharmony, internal虫积 (parasitic stagnation), and difficult constipation.
Formula: Rhubarb (Dahuang) (cut and stir-fried), Red peony root (Chishaoyao, Paeonia lactiflora root) (three liang each), Magnolia bark (Nongpo/Mhou, Magnolia officinalis bark) (coarse skin removed, stir-fried with ginger juice, three liang), Immature bitter orange fruit (Zhishi, Citrus aurantium fruit) (pulp removed, stir-fried with bran, one liang five qian). [Daji Da Dou Tang] Treats constipation.
Formula: Kansui root (Daji, Euphorbia kansui root), Soybean (Da Dou, Glycine max seed), Phytolacca root (Shanglu, Phytolacca acinosa root), Achyranthes root (Niuxi, Achyranthes bidentata root) (three jin each). Cut the above ingredients, add five sheng of water, boil down to two sheng. Use the soybean decoction to administer the medicine.
[Chi Qing Jiang Qing Fang] Treats difficult defecation.
Formula: Fermented soybean liquid (Chi Qing), Soy sauce liquid (Jiang Qing), Mutton cheese (Yang lao), Trichosanthes root juice (Tugua gen juice). Mix evenly and enema or灌服 (administer orally/enematically) for immediate relief.
[Xiangzhi Tang] Treats constipation, regulates wind, and promotes qi flow.
Formula: Bitter orange fruit (Zhike), Saposhnikovia root (Fangfeng, Saposhnikovia divaricata root), Areca nut (Binglang), Licorice root (Gancao) (one liang each). Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take two qian per dose, mix with hot water, take on an empty stomach.
[Simo Tang] Treats qi stagnation with abdominal urgency, constipation, and deficiency constipation in the elderly.
