Radix Crotonis Tiglii (Badou, 巴豆)
Combined with three ingredients, purified fragrance. Treats obstruction of both urination and defecation.
Root of *Akebia quinata* (Tianzizhu, 天茄子) (Sweet in taste, warm in nature; grows by rivers and lakes; leaves resemble those of eggplant, hence the name Tianzizhu; also known as Qigucǎo, 漆菇草. Qigu is Shuyangquan, 蜀羊泉, mentioned previously). Treats obstruction of both urination and defecation. Fullness and oppression below the umbilicus.
Chrysosplenium japonicum (Haijinsha, 海金沙) (One liang; originally from valleys in Hunan, now found everywhere. Young plants are small, one to two chi high; harvested in the seventh month, dried in the sun, placed on paper, and beaten to obtain the raw product). Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang, 生姜)
The *Nanjing* (Classic of Difficult Issues), Chapter 44, states: Where are the Seven Gates? The answer is: The lips are the Flying Gate (Feimen, 飞门); the teeth are the Household Gate (Humen, 户门); the epiglottis is the Inhaling Gate (Ximen, 吸门); the stomach is the Receiving Gate (Benmen, 贲门); the lower opening of the Tai Cang (Stomach) is the... As for the Stomach, Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Bladder, they are the root of the granaries, the dwelling place of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi), named "vessels," capable of transforming dregs and converting flavors for excretion. If humans are injured by Wind-Cold... Yin and Yang... Hard obstruction... then slippery... Heat... Cold... Fire... consumes Blood and fluids, leading to Lung Qi obstruction, unable to moisten. Metal oppressed by Fire cannot produce sound. The Classics state that the Lung governs sound. Pain and twisting of limbs result from the struggle between Wind and Dampness, eventually forming hemiplegia, slurred speech, and inability to move hands and feet freely. Thus, vomiting and diarrhea due to Cold injury, resulting in fluid loss and dryness, have become rare. Because Cold-Dampness stagnates together, Ying and Wei Qi cannot develop and circulate, also forming hemiplegia. The Classics state: Various conditions of涩 (sluggishness/stagnation), dryness, shrinking, and cracking belong to Dryness. If Wind Qi stagnates and the intestines and stomach are dry, this is called Wind Constipation (Fengmi, 风秘). If there is guest-Heat in the Stomach, with oral ulcers and yellow body, this is called Heat Constipation (Remi, 热秘). If the Lower Jiao is deficient and cold, with urgency and tenesmus, this is called Cold Constipation (Lengmi, 冷秘). Or if fluids are severely depleted after illness, or due to insufficient Qi and Blood in the elderly and weak, this is called Deficiency Constipation (Xumi, 虚秘). Or if Kidney deficiency causes excessive urination, leading to dryness and deficiency of the Large Intestine, with thirst and frequent constipation, it is fluid depletion. Or if there is excess and dryness in the Stomach, with intermittent chills and fever, it is retained food. Although treatment methods should harmonize and follow Yin and Yang, methods such as dispersing Wind and resolving stagnation, clearing Heat and removing Cold, guiding and tonifying deficiency must not be neglected. One must examine the syndrome to treat it.
The intestines and stomach are originally solid, but when combined with Cold and Heat pathogenic factors, they knot and fail to diffuse, causing difficulty in defecation. It is also said that pathogenic factors in the Kidney cause difficulty in defecation. Therefore... promoting... Hand Shaoyin... Upper pulse Yin excess indicates Spleen excess. The patient suffers from a sensation in the intestines like a hard mass, with difficult defecation. Pulse is tight and slippery... defecation is also difficult. Fuyang acupoint...
Generally, the essence of the five flavors nourishes the Zang organs, while the turbidity of all Yang returns to the Large Intestine. The Large Intestine governs expulsion without reception. Now, stagnation and accumulation occur... alone does not... deficient persons... aggregation... anal canal... constipation... Heat then... unblocking and promoting... Huangbei... slice... Heat...

He dared not eat until full; if he ate until full, defecation became extremely difficult... taking medicine... fearing medicine... subsequently taking... coarse... urine... down... lubricating orifices...
For the elderly, organ constipation and sluggishness should not be treated with Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang, 大黄). The elderly have little Jing-Yin (Body Fluids), so their organs are constipated and sluggish. Taking Radix et Rhizoma Rhei again to purge will deplete all Jing-Yin. Fixed... sluggish... i.e....
