The Health Preservation Manual states: Vigorously shake both arms to the left and right repeatedly, holding the breath for nine cycles (nine "tong"), which can cure arm pain and fatigue. For conditions caused by wind-pathogen leading to impaired limb movement or body itching, vibrating the arms helps regulate qi and blood flow. During operation, control breathing so that no sound of inhalation or exhalation is heard. When guiding internal qi, focus the mind to direct the qi, allowing it to exit from the toes. Guide the qi for five to six breaths; one exhalation counts as one "xi" (breath unit). Gradually increase the count to ten, and then further increase. If one can reach one hundred or two hundred breaths, the disease will be eliminated and cured. During treatment, avoid eating raw vegetables, chicken, fish, and fatty meat. After a full meal, or during emotional fluctuations such as anger, joy, worry, or grief, do not practice qi guidance. It is best to practice qi guidance in the early morning when the environment is quiet and pure, which can cure myriad diseases.
The Stomach is the sea of water and grain. The essence of water and grain transforms into qi and blood. When qi and blood are abundant, the body is nourished and prospered, and wind-pathogens cannot invade.
It is also said: The common belief is that paralysis on the left is called "Tan" (paralysis), and on the right is called "Huan" (flaccidity); this view is particularly incorrect. Why? Because medical classics mention "hemiplegia due to wind striking half the body." Therefore, the symptoms of "Tan Huan" should be understood according to classical descriptions rather than folk sayings.
