Health preservation methods state: One should maintain silence to nourish the spirit, hold the breath until it reaches its limit, and exhale gently. Furthermore, one should avoid excessive talking or loud shouting to prevent depletion of Shen (Spirit).

It is also said:
Lick the lips, raise the elbows to fatigue the arms, sit with hands holding the knees. Move the knees up and down, place the palms facing each other behind the head and neck, and simultaneously pull the arms towards the head and shoulders. Move the hands back and forth on the mat seven times, extend the hands upward seven times, and clasp the hands together seven times. Keep the waist upright and feet still; this can eliminate the Five Wastes and Seven Injuries, and regulate coldness and warmth below the umbilicus. Frequent use keeps the body harmonious. It is also said: Stand on one foot, hold both hands below the Dubi (ST35) acupoint, pull forcefully towards the body as far as possible, alternating left and right four times (eight times in total); this can resolve the stagnation of Qi at Zusanli (ST36). There is also the "Snake Movement" Qi method: rise from a squatting position, close the eyes and follow the Qi, do not breathe, eat little, only pass the intestines and ingest Qi as food, using saliva as liquid. In spring, emerge; in winter, store. This treats the Five Wastes and Seven Injuries. It is also said: The "Toad Movement" Qi method: shake both arms while upright, do not breathe for twelve cycles; this treats the Five Wastes, Seven Injuries, and edema. Rotate both feet outward ten times to draw out labor from the heart and abdomen; rotate both feet inward ten times to draw out heart ailments, stopping after five breaths; this eliminates all labor diseases and rashes on the body. Lie flat on your back, inhale slowly through the mouth, and exhale through the nose; this relieves internal urgency and fullness after eating. Then swallow Qi dozens of times gently to warm the cold. Hold Qi in the mouth seventy times, fill the abdomen greatly, then swallow Qi dozens of times gently. Rub both hands until extremely hot, then rub the abdomen to guide the Qi downward.
