In the second month of Dingwei year, Guo Dafang stated that his wife suffered from sudden severe uterine bleeding that would not stop. Previously, her body had been damaged and she had lost blood. Since then, her menstruation had been delayed by ten days each time. This time, it did not stop. She had a narrow mind and an impatient temperament, and was prone to fright. It was estimated that this must be due to insufficiency of Heart Qi and irregular diet. Dafang immediately went to examine her. The pulse was diagnosed as Cold in the Middle Jiao, deep, fine, and slow, occasionally deep and rapid. The nine orifices were slightly obstructed. The four limbs were weak. There was upper asthma and shortness of breath. Respiration through the mouth and nose was irregular. Indeed, there were symptoms of Heart Qi insufficiency and Spleen-Stomach deficiency. Pain at the epigastrium directly below the heart, contraction and tightness with accumulation under the hypochondrium, moving Qi around the umbilicus, borborygmus in the abdomen, flatus, and loose stools...

Shengyang Jujing Tang (Raising Yang and Lifting Menstruation Decoction) [Source: *Shixiao Fang*]
Treats continuous menstruation. If the Chi pulse feels empty upon pressing, it indicates depletion of both Qi and Blood, a severe Cold syndrome. Light pressure reveals a rapid pulse. Lifting the finger reveals a wiry, tight, or choppy pulse; these are all signs of depletion. When Yin Fire descends, heat symptoms appear in the mouth, nose, and eyes, or thirst occurs. These indicate Yin dryness and Yang about to deplete. Treatment should involve warming, lifting, raising, floating, and drying. This method requires greatly raising and floating Qi and Blood, effectively tonifying depletion below the Gate of Life.
