Yueshi Chuang (Moon-eating ulcer), also known as tinea capitis or auricular eczema in children, is mostly seen in infants and young children. This is primarily due to a preference for sweet and fatty foods, leading to turbid Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi). Wind-heat toxic pathogens accumulate in the Zang-Fu organs. These ulcers typically occur around both ears and the lower orifices. When the ulcer subsides:
Formulas:
Tutou San (Rabbit Head Powder) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats Yueshi Chuang with dampness in the lower body.

Grind into fine powder. Apply an amount the size of a jujube pit into the affected area.
Hufen San (Lead White Powder) [from *Zhizhi Fang*]: Treats Yueshi Chuang.
Ingredients: Hufen (Basic Lead Carbonate, lightly stir-fried until yellow), Baifan (Alumen), Guodan (Red Lead), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, cleaned), Qingfen (Calomel, each 2 qian), Yanzhi (Vermilion/Rouge, 1 qian), She (Musk, a small amount).
Shuiyin Gao (Mercury Ointment) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats Yueshi Chuang occurring on the upper ears and beside the ear canals, fluctuating with the waxing and waning of the moon.
Ingredients: Shuiyin (Mercury, 1 fen), Hufen (Lead White, ground), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, de-stemmed and powdered), Songzhi (Pine Rosin, each 0.5 liang), Zhuzhi (Porcine Fat, 4 liang). First boil the porcine fat, then add the other ingredients.
Gancao San (Licorice Powder) [from *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*]: Treats Yueshi Chuang.
Ingredients: Gancao Mo (Licorice Root Powder), Qingwa (Green Frog, naturally dead and calcined), Zhu Mu Ti Jia (Sow's Hoof Claws, calcined), Jiuyuezhang (Ash of *Ligustrum lucidum* stem, calcined, each 1 liang). Grind all ingredients finely. First wash the ulcer with warm saline solution to clean it, dry it, and apply the powder. If the ulcer is dry, mix with raw sesame oil for application. Continue until healed.
Another Formula:
Ingredients: Hutou Gu (Tiger Head Bone, powdered), Zhuzhi (Porcine Fat, each 3 liang), Fuping (Marsilea quadrifolia, powdered, 1 liang). Mix and adjust to a paste consistency. First wash the ulcer with salt water, then apply the paste. Three times daily.
