Whenever one takes Wu Shi San (Five Minerals Powder), as well as stone-based elixirs such as Zhongru (Stalactite), after the condition has improved and dosage has been regulated, various symptoms may arise due to triggering factors. Although the manifestations differ, the methods of care are similar. Recently, when people encounter these syndromes, tracing the cause reveals it is due to mineral drugs; one must induce sweating through self-regulated purgation or diaphoresis to resolve it.
Those who regulate their diet and medication properly may experience spontaneous resolution. Some resolve after twenty days; at this time, the body feels warm but not excessively cold, which is a sign that the mineral qi has dissipated. Those who fail to regulate properly may suffer from severe headaches, among other symptoms.
Ma Men Dong Gao (Ophiopogon Paste): Treats mineral qi lingering in the skin, causing heaviness and heat.
Ingredients: Sheng Mai Men Dong (Fresh Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Wei Rui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Shu Li Pi (Phellodendri Cortex), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, crushed), Ning Shui Shi (Alumen), Sha Shen (Adenophorae Radix) (each 1 liang); Qing Xiang Zi (Lycii Semen), Lu Feng Fang (Vespa Nidus) (appropriate amounts).
Preparation: Chop the herbs, add to Niu Su (Bovis Moschus/Cow Butter - *Note: Context suggests a fatty base like butter or ghee for paste*, traditionally Niu Su can refer to Musk but here likely implies a lipid vehicle or specific preparation method involving bovine products), and decoct.
Zhi Zi Tang (Gardenia Decoction): If urine is thick and frequent, it is due to consuming hot foods, such as various hot pancakes and meats. It is advisable to wash the abdomen with cold water and take this decoction concurrently.
Ingredients: Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus, 2 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, roasted), Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas, dissolved in decoction), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 2 liang).
Preparation: Cut the herbs, add 5 sheng of water, boil to obtain 2 sheng. Divide into doses.
If sudden stubborn masses appear in the hands and feet, it is due to prolonged exposure to heat pathogens. Immediately wash with cold water, drink hot clear wine, and consume cold food to stop it. Another method: drinking cold clear wine also stops it. If there is aversion to food with a smell like decaying matter, it is due to warm food causing mass formation. It is advisable to urgently purge with San Huang Tang (Three Yellows Decoction). If not purged, recovery will not occur. If there is chest and hypochondriac fullness with upward rushing Qi and vomiting, it is due to hunger without eating, causing medicinal Qi to rush upward. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) Quickly wash with cold water; eating cold rice stops it. If there is chills and trembling with involuntary head shaking, it is due to insufficient food intake relative to the drug dose, causing Qi to overflow into the skin and muscles, loss of control by the Five Zang organs, agitation of the Hundred Vessels, and conflict with Healthy Qi. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) It is advisable to forcibly drink hot wine to harmonize the vessels, forcibly eat cold food to settle the Zang organs, forcibly move to regulate the joints, and forcibly wash.
If flatulence is uncontrollable, it is due to failing to wash promptly after exposure to warmth. Washing with cold water alone cures it.
If fecal incontinence occurs unconsciously, it is due to Heat Qi entering the Stomach and failure of the Large Intestine to restrain. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) Washing with cold water cures it.
If joints are stiff and cannot flex or extend, it is due to prolonged rest, lack of self-movement and discharge, undissipated medicinal Qi gradually infiltrating the sinews and vessels. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*)
If alcohol does not intoxicate, food cannot go down, alternating heat and cold occur, washing is inconvenient. If washed with hot water, cold becomes severe for dozens of days; if mild, for a few days, day and night without... Medicines combine... Self-punishment... Leads to death... (Text fragment indicates severe consequences).
If gums swell, lips rot, teeth loosen and hurt, and the jaw locks, it is due to sitting long in heat. Timely rescue is needed. One can open the mouth facing the wind to let cool air enter the throat.
If stool is thick and frequent, it is due to prolonged sitting without regulation, a sign of impending death. One can purge with Da Huang Huang Qin Zhi Zi Mang Xiao Tang (Rhubarb, Scutellaria, Gardenia, and Mirabilite Decoction). There is still one chance in eleven of survival.
If cold food cannot be swallowed, it is due to long-term consumption of cold food and loss of taste sensation. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) One should make Bai Jiu Mi (White Rice Porridge with Wine), adding much butter and eating it hot.
If the lower part (genital area) smells foul and rots, it is due to sitting on hot mats. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) Sitting in cold water cures it.
If breath from the nose smells like rotten eggs, it is due to wearing warm clothes. Or if the scrotum smells foul and rots, it is due to sitting in heat. Entering cold water and removing clothes...
If sudden blindness occurs, it is due to diet and dwelling being too warm. Simply remove clothes, wash with cold water, and eat cold food; recovery occurs shortly.
If pain occurs everywhere in the flesh without fixed location, wandering like Wind, it is caused by heat pathogens, not cold wind. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) Cold washing is suitable, to...
If excessive sleepiness and unconsciousness occur, it is due to prolonged sitting in stuffy heat. Cold washing and cold food cure it.
If skin and muscles are hard as stone and cannot flex/extend, it is due to hot food and warm lying causing masses, blockage of the Five Zang organs, and obstruction of blood vessels. Urgently take San Huang Tang (Three Yellows Decoction) to purge.
If arms and legs are laterally stiff and painful, it is due to prolonged sitting/lying in warmth, lack of movement, causing Qi to enter the Lung, Spleen, and Stomach. Also said: Heat enters the abdomen and attaches to the bone. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) Diligently apply two cloths soaked in cold water. Change when warm. Within three days, it cures.
If the pulse is surging and solid, or absent/insufficient resembling a dying pulse, or fine, rapid, wiry, and fast, the causes vary. Such pulses are unrecognized by physicians. Excess heat makes the pulse wiry and fast; masses make it surging and solid; acute pain makes it absent. (From *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*) Only cold food is suitable; naturally, there will be no suffering. Not a fatal case, only diligence... Regulation is best. Generally...
If a person is exhausted but the pulse continues, it is because medicinal Qi prevails in the Hundred Vessels while the person's True Qi is exhausted; the medicinal Qi still moves, so the pulse continues. This is not vital Qi.
