Fixed Number Verse
Jia corresponds to one, Yi to two, Bing to three. Ding to four, Wu to five, Ji to six. Geng to seven, Xin to eight, Ren to nine. Gui to ten, circulating in succession within Kan (Water) position.
Shanghan Pingqi (Balanced Qi) Verse
Jiyou, Xinhai, and Yimao years correspond to spring. Kun Yuan energy originates in Jiwei and Chou years. Fire Yun (Five Phase Movement) is determined by its arrival in Guisi year. The Pingqi (balanced qi) arises from the deficiency of the Six Qi (Six Climatic Factors). Wuxu and Chen years face each other; Gengzi year faces them. Gengyin year instead pairs with Genshen year. Excessive Yang of the Six Yangs does not constitute Pingqi. One must carefully seek the relationship of opposing Yin and Yang.
Shanghan Five Yun Correspondence Verse
Xu, Hai, Wu, and Shen years all belong to Fire Yun. Si and Yin years belong to Wood Yun; Wei and You years belong to Metal Yun. Zi and Chen years belong to Water Yun (Water Position); Chou and Mao years belong to Earth Yun. This principle is worth ten thousand taels of gold, and students should understand it.
On the Pulse of Shanghan with Nan Zheng (Southern Administration) Sitian (Heavenly Sovereign)
In Nan Zheng years, Sitian is above and Zaiquan (Earth Sovereign) is below. When Jueyin is Sitian, the right Cun (inch) pulse is not empty but indicates response. When Taiyin is Sitian, the left Cun pulse does not indicate response. When Shaoyin is Sitian, both hands' Cun pulses have no connection (do not respond).
On the Pulse of Shanghan with Bei Zheng (Northern Administration) Sitian
The Sitian pulse for Bei Zheng is the same as Nan Zheng. When Jueyin is Sitian, the left Chi (cubit) pulse adheres to the orthodox method. When Taiyin is Sitian, the right Chi pulse does not indicate response. When Shaoyin is Sitian, both hands' Chi pulses are traceless (do not respond).
General Verse on the Pulses of the Six Qi Year by Year for Nan Zheng and Bei Zheng Shanghan, Regarding Non-Response
Nan Zheng Taiyin Sitian occurs in Chou and Wei years; Bei Zheng Taiyin Sitian occurs in Chen and Xu years. Left Cun non-response requires no doubt. Nan Zheng Jueyin Sitian occurs in Si and Hai years; Bei Zheng Jueyin Sitian occurs in Yin and Shen years. Right Cun non-response presents with a delayed pulse. Bei Zheng Sitian in Chou and Wei years, Nan Zheng Sitian in Kui Gang positions (specific stem-branch orientations). Even-numbered years: Kan and Li (Shaoyin) in Bei Zheng, Mao and You years in Nan Zheng. Both hands' Chi pulses are absent (non-response).
Summary Method for Sitian of Nan Zheng and Bei Zheng Shanghan
For Nan Zheng Sitian, Jiazi and Jichou years proceed in順 (clockwise/forward) migration. For Bei Zheng Sitian, Yichou year and Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth Yun proceed in逆 (counter-clockwise/backward) migration.
The Qi of the Sui Shen (Year Deity) is Sitian. Advancing three Chen (earthly branches/positions) to the left determines Zaiquan. Sitian speaks of left and right facing south; what is spoken of as left and right facing north refers to Zaiquan. Sitian serves as the guest of the Third Qi.
Sitian governs the Heaven Qi of the year, being the first three Qi, managing the whole year. Sidizhu (Earth Master) governs the Earth Qi of the year, managing the latter three Qi.
The verse method shifts one position per year, completing a cycle through six periods. However, upper and lower overlap, Yin and Yang interlace, and changes arise from this. When Qi harmonizes, there is peace.
There is an inherent rule:
If Shaoyin is in the center, then Jueyin is on the right, and Taiyin is on the left. This cannot be changed. If Shaoyin is Sitian or Zaiquan, it governs the non-response of Cun and Chi pulses. Jueyin...
