Baiya Fang (Duck Decoction, from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats Water Qi disease. Symptoms include abdominal distension, generalized edema, and scanty, difficult urination.
Take one white duck, remove feathers, and clean out all internal organs thoroughly. Wash with hot water. Place half a sheng of rice mixed with ginger and Sichuan pepper into the duck's cavity, sew it shut, and cook according to standard methods.
Another prescription (from *Zhouhou Fang*) treats generalized edema and difficulty in urination.
Take five liang of Polyporus (Zhu Ling), grind and sieve into powder. Mix with one he of water and administer one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) of the powder, increasing gradually to two fangcun bi.
Qiannu San (Peganum Powder, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats Water Qi disease. Symptoms include generalized edema, shortness of breath, and inability to sit or lie down comfortably.
Take two liang of Peganum seeds (Qianniu Zi), lightly stir-fry and grind into fine powder. Soak overnight in urine from a black bull. At dawn, add one handful of scallion whites, boil for more than ten boils, strain, and divide into three doses to be taken on an empty stomach.
Prescription for treating Water Qi disease with generalized swelling (from *Qianjin Fang*).
Sargassum (Haizao, chopped), Rheum palmatum (Jinwen Dahuang, chopped), Euphorbia pekinensis (Daji, chopped), Swietenia seeds (Xuisui Zi, shelled, each one liang). Soak the above ingredients in two zhan of good wine in a clean bowl overnight. [Note: The original text appears incomplete here regarding preparation instructions].
Kansui (Gansui, stir-fried until yellow, one liang), White Peganum (Bai Qianniu, one liang, raw, crushed to extract juice), Huashi from Guifu (half liang, purified), Myristica fragrans (Roudoukou, one fruit), Qingpi, Chenpi, Mingfan (Ming, likely referring to Alum or similar mineral, text fragmentary), cold tea, fish meat.
Muxiang Tongqi Wan (Aucklandia Qi-Regulating Pill): Regulates qi, opens the chest and diaphragm, reduces swelling, and promotes appetite.
Ingredients: Peganum seeds (Qianniu, half jin, half raw half cooked), Chenpi (four liang, peeled), Psoralea corylifolia (Pogu Zhi/Buguzhi, four liang, stir-fried), Fennel (Huixiang, one liang, stir-fried), South Aucklandia (Nan Muxiang, one liang).
Administration: Take with warm water.
Baizhu Wan (Atractylodes Macrocephala Pill): Treats generalized edema and fullness, as well as childhood malnutrition diseases (Kan Ji).
Ingredients: Notopterygium root (Qianghuo), Atractylodes macrocephala (Baizhu, each half liang), Akebia stem (Mutong), Astragalus root (Huangqi - inferred from context "Huang"), Mulberry root bark (Sangbaipi, each three liang), Aucklandia (Muxiang, two liang), Black Peganum (Hei Qianniu, ten liang, half raw half stir-fried).
Tazhang Wan (Collapse Distension Pill): Treats Water disease, whole-body swelling, rapid breathing, and difficulty in urination.
Ingredients: Root bark of Populus simonii (Baizhangliugen, three liang, finely chopped), Adzuki beans (Chixiaodou, five liang), aged Tangerine peel (Chen Jupi, peeled, two liang), Aucklandia (Muxiang, one liang). Grind the above into powder, mix with water to form pills.
Fangji Tang (Stephania Decoction): Mainly treats generalized fullness, scanty and difficult urination, upper and lower qi urgency, fluid retention preventing eating, and abdominal distension after eating.
Ingredients: Mulberry root bark (Sangbaipi, five liang), Soybeans (Dadou, five sheng, boiled with three dou of water and Sangbaipi to obtain one dou of liquid, strained), Ephedra herb (Mahuang), Stephania root (Fangji), Tangerine peel (Jupi), Red Poria (Chifuling, sliced). [Dosage for Chifuling is missing in source].
Boil and take. If urination becomes smooth and swelling subsides, but there is excessive cold in the lower body, add Cornus officinalis (Zhuyu, four liang) and Scrophularia root (Xuanshen, four liang). Avoid vinegar products.
