Water Syndrome (Shui Zheng) is caused by the obstruction and stagnation of meridians and collaterals, leading to the accumulation of water qi within the abdomen, resulting in dysfunction of the large and small intestines. The disease manifests as hard, firm masses within the abdomen located between the two hypochondria, abdominal distension and fullness, and generalized edema; hence it is called Water Syndrome. Water Syndrome also refers to the condition where meridian obstruction leads to water qi accumulating under the heart (epigastrium).
