Sangpi Yin (Mulberry Bark Decoction) [from *Zhizhi Fang*]: Treats fluid accumulation in the lungs. Symptoms include edema of the head and face.
Ingredients: Stir-fried *Morus Albae Cortex* (Sangbaipi), *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride* (Qingpi), *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Chenpi), *Arecae Semen* (Binglang), *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus* (Zhiqiao), *Polyporus Umbellatus* with Red Dye (Chifuling), *Aucklandiae Radix* (Qingmuxiang), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Chuanxiong), *Pyrrosiae Folium* (Shiwei) roasted and de-haired.

Shenxian Mijue Wan (Immortal's Secret Pill): Specifically treats edema and jaundice caused by water qi.
Ingredients: Suanpi, Qingpi, Chenpi, *Sparganii Rhizoma* (Sanleng), *Crotonis Fructus* (Badou), *Trogopterori Faeces* (Wulingzhi), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang), *Massae Fermentatae Medicamentosa* (Shenqu), *Phoebe Seed* (Wumei), *Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix* (Daji), *Genkwa Flos* (Yanhua), *Kansui Radix* (Gansui), *Descurainiae Semen Lepidii et Lepidii Semen* (Tinglizi), *Prunus Armeniaca Semen* (Xingren), *Sojae Seminis Preparatum* (Dandouchi).
Preparation: Pound and sieve into fine powder, stir-fry until slight smoke rises, bind with vinegar paste to make pills.
Dosage: Size of mung beans, take 7 pills per dose, adjust according to deficiency or excess.
Luoboziyin (Radish Seed Drink) [from *Yifang Dacheng*]: Treats edema caused by water disease.
Ingredients: Raw Radish Seed (Luobozhi) 0.5 liang, Polyporus with Red Dye (Chifuling) peeled 0.5 liang, Fried *Arctii Semen* (Qianni) powder, Fried Fragrant Tinglizi (Tinglizi), Roasted Licorice Root (Gancao) 4 liang each, Pinellia Tuber (Banxia).
Preparation: Cut into coarse pieces.
Dosage: Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with one sheng of water and four slices of fresh ginger until reduced to 0.7 sheng, strain, and take when not hungry and not full.
Binglang Wan (Areca Pill) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats water qi. On the first day, take one dose of Binglang Wan on an empty stomach in the morning, and one dose of Zhishi Tang after noon. Repeat the same on the second day.
Ingredients: Baked and crushed Areca Seed (Binglang), half-raw half-fried *Arctii Semen* (Qianni), paper-interleaved fried Tinglizi (Tinglizi) 1 liang each, *Bidens Pilosa* (Enshi), *Aucklandiae Radix* (Muxiang), Green Tangerine Peel (Qingjupi) peeled and soaked in hot water, *Cariptae Fructus* (Yuliren) peeled, cored, and fried, White Polyporus (Baifuling) peeled, Aurantium Fruit (Zhiqiao) without pith, *Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix* (Fangji) 0.5 liang each, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) wrapped in paper and baked in ashes until fragrant and ripe 1 fen.
Preparation: Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds.
Dosage: Take 4 pills per dose, swallow with a decoction of Mulberry Root Bark (Sanggenbaidi) on an empty stomach.
Zhishi Tang (Aurantium Decoction) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats water qi.
Ingredients: Aurantium Fruit (Zhishi) with pith removed and bran-fried, *Cimicifugae Rhizoma* (Shengma), Roasted and crushed Licorice Root (Gancao), Crushed and fried Mulberry Root Bark (Sanggenbaidi), Baked *Anemarrhenae Rhizoma* (Zhimu), *Asterae Radix* (Ziwan), *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (Baizhu), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian).
Preparation: Sieve into fine powder.
Dosage: Take 3 qian per dose.
Wanling Wan (Ten Thousand Spirits Pill) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats swelling and fullness caused by water qi.
Ingredients: Bitter Gourd (Kuhuulu) dried by baking 5 liang, Bitter Gourd Pulp (Kuhuulu Rang) dried by baking 2.5 liang, *Arctii Semen* (Qianni) half-raw half-cooked 3.5 liang.
Preparation: Grind into powder, bind with vinegar paste.
Shuiyin Wan (Mercury Pill) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats water qi. Symptoms include abdominal fullness and dysuria.
Ingredients: Mercury (Shuiyin) boiled in wine for one day and ground into mud 1 liang, *Zanthoxyli Semen* (Jiaomu), Paper-roasted Tinglizi (Tinglizi) 2 liang, Crushed Natrii Sulfas (Mayaxiao) 1 liang.
Preparation: Grind together uniformly, mix with refined honey.
Lurong Wan (Deer Antler Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats residual weakness and emaciation after recovery from water qi.
Ingredients: Deer Antler (Lurong) roasted and de-haired, *Cynomorii Herba* (Roucongrong) peeled, baked, and soaked, Dried Rehmannia Root (Di Huang) baked, *Platycladi Semen* (Baiziren) ground, *Cuscutae Semen* (Tusizi) soaked in wine overnight and baked 1 liang each, other herbs 0.5 liang each.

Haige Wan (Sea Clam Pill): Specifically treats water qi. Symptoms include edema of head and face, limb weakness, and scanty urination.
Ingredients: Ground Sea Clam (Haige) 1.5 liang, Ground Niter (Xiaoshi) 2 liang, Slightly fried Tinglizi (Tinglizi) 1.5 liang, *Prunus Armeniaca Semen* (Xingren) soaked in hot water, de-skin, de-core, double-kernel, fried yellow, ground 1 liang.
Qingfen Wan (Calomel Pill) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats water qi.
Ingredients: Calomel (Shuiyinfen) 4 fen, Talcum (Huashi) 2 qian, Calcined Gypsum (Hanshuishi) 3 qian, *Inulae Flos* (Haijinsha) 1 qian.
Preparation: Grind finely, mix with white flour dough.
Caution: Drug potency is strong, use with caution. Do not take if teeth become loose after the first dose and urine does not flow; condition is incurable. If urine flows on the third day, it is excellent. Abdominal sounds indicate spleen pain and tooth loosening. If teeth loosen, use Fengzhiya Fang immediately.
Fengzhiya Fang (Tooth-Sealing Formula) [from *Shenghui Fang*]:
Ingredients: Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai), Jujube Flesh (Zaorou) equal parts.
Preparation: Mix and grind into paste.
Usage: Apply to gums, rinse mouth with Schizonepeta Decoction (Jingjie Tang) 3-5 times. If water moves from lower abdomen, reduction often occurs gradually.

Puhuang Jiu (Polygonatum Wine): Specifically treats generalized edema due to wind-deficiency water qi disease; also treats sudden swelling.
Ingredients: Polygonatum Pollen (Puhuang) 1 sheng, Soybean (Dadou) 1 sheng, Adzuki Bean (Xiaodou) 1 sheng.
Preparation: Boil in 1 dou of clear wine until reduced to 3 sheng, strain beans.

Zaoren San (Jujube Seed Powder) [from *Sanyin Fang*]: Treats water qi edema, suitable for all ages and chronicity.

Preparation: Grind into powder.
Dosage: Take 2 qian per dose, mix with rice drink. Avoid salt for best effect.
Jiangdou Fang (Soybean Paste Formula): Treats all water qi distension and edema.
Ingredients: *Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix* (Daji) 1 liang, *Aucklandiae Radix* (Muxiang) 5 qian, add half liang of pure Black *Arctii Semen* (Heiqianniu) powder. Increase for severe cases, omit for mild.

Guagui San (Melon and Cinnamon Powder) [from *Baiyi Xuanfang*]: Treats water qi.
Usage: Take one winter melon, remove pulp, insert 10 liang of crushed Cinnamon Twig (Rougui), seal with wet paper layers, dig a pit, surround with charcoal fire to extract juice.
Mu Gua Fang (Papaya Formula): Treats water qi [from *Baiyi Xuanfang*].
Usage: Take one Xuanzhou Papaya, cut lid with bamboo knife, remove seeds and pulp, insert *Evodiae Fructus* (Wuzhuyu), secure lid with bamboo skewer, steam until cooked, bake dry.
Shanglu Fang (Phytolacca Formula): Treats water qi [from *Zhouhou Fang*].
Usage: Take white Phytolacca Root (Shanglu), peel, cut into bean-sized pieces, one sheng, decoct with three sheng of water until reduced to one sheng, boil until soft. Use one sheng of millet to cook porridge.
Xuisui Zi Fang (Euphorbia Lathyris Formula): Treats water qi.
Usage: Take 1 liang of Euphorbia Lathyris Seed (Xuisui Zi), de-shell, grind, wrap in paper, press to remove oil, re-grind into powder, divide into seven doses, one dose per person per day.
Zhiqiao Fang (Aurantium Formula): Treats water qi with skin itching.
Usage: Take 1 liang of *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus* (Zhiqiao), pound into powder, decoct in water, sip occasionally.
Another Formula: Mainly treats water qi.
Usage: Take 2 liang of Polyporus with Red Dye (Chifuling), boil in rice vinegar until soft, grind fine into paste, form pills the size of paulownia seeds, take 7 pills with pepper soup on an empty stomach.
Xiao Banxia Fuling Tang (Minor Pinellia and Polyporus Decoction): Specifically treats various water qi.
Ingredients: Processed Pinellia Tuber (Banxia) 5 liang, Polyporus (Fuling) 3 liang.
Preparation: Cut into pieces.
Dosage: Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with 2.5 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, add 2.5 qian of fresh ginger, grind to extract juice.
General Principle for Treating Water Qi: For all water qi and limb edema, this approach is suitable. Generally, treat water qi gently and gradually; do not use harsh drugs that damage vital energy.
Formulas for Five Zang Organs Affected by Water Qi:
1. Spleen affected by water qi, transmitting to Lung via mother-son relationship. Lung receiving water causes facial edema spreading to whole body, lower abdominal distension, yellowish skin.
Ingredients: *Ephedrae Herba* (Mahuang) de-rooted, Dried Ginger (Ganjiang) 0.5 liang each, Yellow Tangerine Peel (Huangjupi) 2 liang, *Zanthoxyli Semen* (Jiaomu) 2 zhu, *Evodiae Fructus* (Wuzhuyu) 3 zhu, Tinglizi (Tingli) 1 fen.
Preparation: Make pill size of half a bean.
Usage: One dose, drop into hot water to form paulownia seed-sized pills, take with scallion soup after meal. If water is expelled and symptoms turn, take next formula. Wait 1-2 days, then expel water again. Continue until water is exhausted, then stop water-expelling drugs and take supplemental formula. If strong Qi, use 3 qian of Qianniu.
2. Next Formula (Supplement Spleen/Lung):
Ingredients: Dried Ginger (Ganjiang), *Platycodonis Radix* (Jiegeng), Licorice Root (Gancao), *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Chuanxiong) 1 fen each, Yellow Tangerine Peel (Huangjupi) 0.5 liang, *Evodiae Fructus* (Wuzhuyu) 3 zhu.

4. After treating Liver water qi and resolving stagnation, take this formula to supplement. Take with Sulfur Pill.
