Dysentery with yellow or red stool color indicates a heat syndrome. In severe cases, blood and pus may be discharged. This is caused by deficiency in the intestines and weakness of the stomach, allowing pathogenic heat to invade the intestinal cavity due to this deficiency. Consequently, symptoms include dysentery with yellow-red stool, mixed blood discharge, burning abdominal pain, dark and scanty urination, fever, irritability, and thirst; hence it is termed "Heat Dysentery" (Re Li).
