The condition of swollen and hard eyelids is internally caused by accumulated heat in the Liver and Lungs, which rushes upward to the eyes. Externally, it is attacked by Wind pathogenic factors. The combination of Wind and Heat remains and knots in the eyelids, preventing the smooth circulation of Blood and Qi, resulting in dimness and unclear vision of the eyelids.
The song from *Longmu Lun* states: "Swelling and hardness with soreness and pain in the center of the eyelids are due to heat rushing up from the Liver and Diaphragm. For swelling of the eyelids, apply ointment and take medicine, and gently wash to cut off the source of the disease."
