Midi (foreign body in the eye) refers to substances such as chaff from winnowing or flying dust entering the eye. They should be removed immediately. If not removed for a long time, they adhere to the eyelids and cause injury, resulting in a sensation of astringency and pain.
The *Longmu Lun* states: Regarding "Midi Feichen Waizhang Mi" (Exterior Obstruction Midi caused by flying dust), at the initial stage of onset, it is all due to flying dust and foreign matter entering the eye, adhering to the skin of the eyelid and sticking to the surface of the eyeball, causing pain and a lingering, difficult-to-endure astringent sensation.
The verse says: "Midi is caused by various objects, such as flying dust and splashes; after sticking to the eye, pain occurs, making it difficult to open. Use a silk-wrapped needle to gently probe them out; once clear vision is restored, one's mood becomes cheerful."
