Injuries caused by bamboo or wood splinters. Although the initial condition is mild, if a splinter penetrates deep into the muscles and remains for a long time without being removed, it will damage the Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi), leading to the formation of sores. It may also be affected by Wind and Water pathogens, resulting in swelling and pain.
Formulas
Lvfan San (Green Vitriol Powder)
(Source: *Wei Shi Fang*)
Treats sores caused by bamboo or grass splinters, characterized by swelling and pain. This occurs when blood stasis is not fully expelled during the injury, allowing toxic factors to attack internally, causing unceasing pain and restlessness at night. When the sore breaks open, the tissue appears purple, red, or black, with significant edema involving multiple layers of skin.
Ingredients: Lvfan (Green Vitriol, *Chalcanthitum*, 0.5 liang, boiled in urine until dissolved, then dried); Danshen (*Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*, 2.5 qian); Madouling Gen (*Aristolochiae Radix*, 1.5 qian); Shexiang (Musk, *Moschus*, a small amount).
Usage: Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Apply externally mixed with vinegar and wine.
Formula for Splinters Embedded in Flesh
(Source: *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats pain from needles, thorns, bamboo, or wood splinters embedded in flesh for many days.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Root, *Panacis Ginseng Radix*, 1 liang, remove rhizome); Longkuigen (*Solanum nigrum* root, 1 handful, washed and bark used); Cu (Vinegar, a small amount); Lanye Zhuzhi (Lard from December, 1 liang).
Usage: Mix evenly. Apply topically as needed.
Formula for Unbearable Pain from Splinter Wounds
Ingredients: Tianqiaomiao (*Solanum lyratum* stems, 4 roots, approx. one fist length, dried is better); Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma*, one large piece).
Usage: Take fresh scallion whites (Congbai, *Allii Fistulosi Bulbus*), crush together with the above herbs until sticky. Shape into cakes and apply to the affected area.
Formula for Sudden Water Toxicity from Hand/Foot Splinters
(Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Ingredients: Jiucai (Chinese Chives, *Allii Tuberosi Herba*); Lanqing (Indigo Naturalis, *Isidis Folium*).
Usage: Crush and apply to the wound. Moxibustion should be applied until heat penetrates deeply; recovery follows.
Suandou Gao (Garlic and Bean Paste)
(Source: *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treats bamboo/wood splinters embedded in flesh and malignant sores.
Ingredients: Dasuan (Garlic Bulb, *Allii Sativi Bulbus*, one clove); Badou (Croton Seed, *Crotonis Fructus*, seven seeds, peeled).
Usage: Grind together into a paste. Apply to the site. Change once daily.
Zaojia Hui (Soap Pod Ash)
(Source: *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treats suppurating wounds caused by bamboo/wood splinters.
Ingredients: Zaojiao (Tamarisk Fruit, *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus*, one pod); Danfan (Blue Vitriol, *Chalcanthitum*, 1 fen).
Usage: Burn into ash, grind finely, and apply dry to the wound.
Method for Splinters Stuck in Skin
(Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Take water infusion of Qiangwei Hui (Rose Ash). Administer 1 cun-bi (approx. 3-5g) per dose, three times daily. The splinter will expel after ten days. Can also be taken with warm wine.
Another Formula (Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Burn the handle of an awl/chisel into ash. Take 2 cun-bi with wine.
Another Formula (Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Apply Tougu (Head Dandruff/Gunk) to the site. The splinter will expel.
Formula for Splinters Embedded in Flesh
(Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Use fresh Niuxi Gen/Radix (Note: Text says "Niuqi", likely referring to a specific local herb or typo for Niuxi, but literal translation is Ox Lacquer Root/Stem). Crush and apply. The splinter will expel even if the wound has closed. Another method: Chew the root and apply as a poultice. Or take powdered form mixed with water.
Another Formula (Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Use Baimaogen (White Imperata Rhizome, *Imperatae Rhizoma*) ash mixed with ointment. Also treats swelling due to Wind. Another method: Crush fresh Baimaogen and apply.
Another Formula (Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Use Lu jiao (Deer Antler, *Cervi Cornu*) ash mixed with water. Apply; the splinter expels immediately. For older cases, overnight suffices. Another method: Apply thick Deer Brain (Lu nao, *Cervi Cerebrum*). Replace when dry.
Another Formula (Source: *Shenghui Fang*)
Apply chewed Bai Mei (White Plum, *Prunus mume* fruit). The splinter expels spontaneously. Another method uses Wu Mei (Dark Plum, *Mume Fructus*).
Another Formula (Source: *Shenghui Fang*)
Chew Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean, *Sojae Semen Nigrum Fermentatum*) and apply. For "Fox Urine Thorns" (a type of thorn), check if the fermented bean contains hairs; use this as a guide. If no hairs, reapply.
Another Formula (Source: *Qianjin Fang*)
Soak the area in warm urine. Preventing water entry is highly effective.
Treatment for Various Bamboo/Wood Splinters in Flesh
(Source: *Waike Jingyao*)

Ingredients: Xiangya Xie (Ivory Chips, *Elephantis Dentis Fragmentum*).

Another Formula (Source: *Bai Yi Xuan Fang*)
Crush Hei Yang Fen (Black Sheep Manure) and mix with water. Apply thickly to the injury. Case: A servant had a splinter in his foot causing extreme pain; treated with this medicine... pain ceased/spinner expelled.

Another Formula
Apply Xian Bai Yu Biao (Salted White Fish Bladder) to the wound. Then burn the bladder glue to charcoal, mix with wine, and ingest.
Treatment for Non-expelling Splinters
Crush Bimangu (Castor Seed, *Ricini Semen*). Place silk gauze over the wound, then apply the castor paste. Monitor closely. Once the splinter emerges, pull it out. Caution: Do not let the medicine tighten too much, lest healthy flesh be pulled out.
Treatment for Needles Embedded in Flesh
Use Lougu Nao (Mole Brain, *Talpa Cerebrum)* crushed and applied. Expels immediately. Another method: Mix mole brain with salt, crush, and apply.
Another Formula
Mix Huangliu (Sulfur, *Sulfur*) finely and apply. Secure with paper flower. When itching is felt, the needle expels.
