Sores on the tongue are caused by heat accumulation in the Heart and Spleen meridians. The mouth belongs to the Heart; the Heart corresponds to Fire, and the Spleen to Earth. Heat accumulated from Fire is transmitted to the Earth of the Spleen, causing both organs to accumulate...
Formulas:
Shengma Decoction (from *Qianjin Fang*): The tongue corresponds to the Heart; heat manifests as sores on the tongue, with cracking that pulls the lips upward and reddens them. Taking this formula drains heat.
