Swelling and urgency, ability to curl the tongue, pain reduces and swelling subsides after medication. The tongue is the external manifestation of the Heart. The Heart governs Blood. Therefore, bleeding leads to recovery. It is also said: All pain, itching, sores, and ulcers belong to Heart Fire. Using burning needles (Fan Zhen) and moxibustion, what is the meaning?

Baifuling (Poria Cocos, remove black skin), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, ground, each 3 fen), Xijiao Xie (Rhinoceros Horn Shavings, 3 fen), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Lingyangjiao Xie (Antelope Horn Shavings). Cut the herbs, add water, decoct, remove dregs. Take warm.
Shegan Tang (Belamcanda Decoction) [from *Shengji Zonglu*], treating Mu She (Wood Tongue) swelling and stiffness. Also for epidemic diseases, heat toxins arising from Dan Shi (mineral drugs) activation.

Huanglian Tang (Coptis Decoction) [from *Shengji Zonglu*], treating tongue swelling due to Shanghan (Cold Damage).
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove stamens), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, raw use, each 1 liang), Daqing (Isatidis Folium, 5 roots), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, each 0.5 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, 3 fen). Treating Mu She (Wood Tongue) swelling caused by stagnation and heat in Heart and Spleen. (Also known as Xuanshen San, from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*)
Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, each 7.5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang). Grind into powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one zhan of water, decoct to 0.5 parts, remove dregs. Take warm.
Muli San (Oyster Shell Powder) [from *Shengji Zonglu*], treating toothache radiating to the jaw joint with tightness. Deviation of mouth and eyes. Mu She (Wood Tongue) swelling and stiffness, unable to turn.
Muli (Concha Ostreae, ground), Fulonggan (Lapis Longi Colluviies), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, roasted, split, remove skin and navel), Baifan (Alumen, ground, each 0.5 liang). Grind into powder. Mix with wine to form mud. Apply appropriately each time.
Zhengshe San (Correct Tongue Powder) [from *Wei Shi Fang*], treating Zhongfeng (Wind Stroke). Stiff tongue root difficult to turn. Abnormal speech. Miraculous effect.
Xeshao (Scorpio Caudex, remove poison, 1 fen), Fushenmu (Poria Cum Radix Pinelli, sliced and lightly stir-fried, 1 liang), Longnao Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba with Borneolum Syntheticum, baked dry, 2 liang). Grind into fine powder. Take 1-2 qian per dose. Take with warm water.
Chaihu San (Bupleurum Powder) [from *Shengji Zonglu*], treating stiff tongue root with pain on both sides.
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, remove seedlings), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, each 1 liang), Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus, 0.5 liang). Grind into powder. Take one qian bi (coin-sized scoop) per dose. Mix with boiled water and swallow. Take three times a day.
Puhuang San (Lygodii Spora Powder) [from *Hai Shang Fang*], treating sudden hard swelling of the tongue. Or bleeding like a gush.
Puhuang (Lygodii Spora), Haipiaoxiao Mo (Sepiae Endochroma, each equal part). Grind into fine powder. Apply a small amount to the tongue each time until cured.

Fanshi San (Alum Stone Powder) [from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*], treating stiff tongue unable to speak.
Baifan (Alumen, ground), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, remove rough bark, each 1 liang). Grind into powder. Take one qian bi or half qian bi each time. Place under or on the tongue. Cure immediately.
Chong San (Insect Powder) [from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*], treating tongue swelling filling the mouth, unable to speak.
Chong (Insect, five pieces roasted), Yan (Salt, 0.5 liang). Grind finely into powder. Add two zhan of water, boil ten-plus times, remove dregs. Hold hot, spit out cold. Continue until cured.
Shexiang San (Musk Powder) [from *Shengji Zonglu*], treating stiff tongue unable to speak.
Shexiang (Moschus), Zaojia (Gleditsiae Fructus, each 0.5 liang). Grind into powder. Take half qian each time. Sprinkle on swollen tongue, expectorate saliva.
She Zhengqiang Fang (Tongue Swelling and Stiffness Formula) [from *Zhi Zhi Fang*]
Shepi (Serpent Skin, burned to retain properties), Quanxie (Scorpio, each equal part). Grind into powder. Sprinkle a small amount on the affected area.
Formula for Sprinkling Medicine for Sudden Tongue Swelling [from *Taiping Shenghui Fang*]
Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Dryus), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, each 1 fen, soaked in hot water seven times to remove slipperiness). Grind into fine powder. Sprinkle a small amount on the tongue each time. Continue until cured.
Baicaoshuang San (Charcoal Powder, also known as Hei Sanzi) Treating tongue swelling rising like pig bladder fat. Sudden hard swelling. Quickly blocking and suffocating death. (From *Wei Shi Fang*)
Use soot from the bottom of the cauldron. Apply thickly with strong vinegar under the tongue. Reapply when it falls off. Disappears in a moment. If blood juice is first pricked out, then apply, even better. For this condition, look carefully and handle.
Formula for Treating Tongue Swelling Filling the Mouth
Hold sugar vinegar in the whole mouth. When heat passes through slightly, it stops.

Mix Puhuang (Lygodii Spora) into paste. Apply to upper and lower tongue. Crush Castor Bean (Bimamu), roll in paper, burn smoke, fumigate the tongue. Shrinks immediately.
Treating Tongue Swelling.
Use good Pengsha (Borax) ground into fine powder. Dip thin-sliced fresh ginger into medicine and rub the swollen tongue area. Subsides in a short time.
Another Method Treating Stiff Tongue Unable to Speak.

Use Gancao (Licorice Root) any amount. Decoct strongly. Hold hot, spit out cold.
Another Method Treating Heavy Tongue Swelling Under Tongue in Adults and Children.
Apply dissolved Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) to outside of throat. Inside, use block form. Hold until saliva comes out, then flat.

Use Dibie Chong (Eupolyphaga Steleophaga) and Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) ground into juice. Wrap in cotton, dip under swollen tongue area.

Use Wuzei Yu Gu (Sepiae Endochroma) and Puhuang (Lygodii Spora) in equal parts, grind into powder. Apply a small amount to tongue each time until cured. Another method uses only Puhuang sprinkled on until cured.
Suoshe Gao (Retracting Tongue Ointment, also known as Rushen San from Ren Cun Fang) Treating tongue swelling hanging down chi distance. And Shanghan Heat Toxin attacking Heart. Tongue protruding several cun.
Use Pian Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum) in pieces. Frequently apply to tongue 3-4 times. Close and no problem.
Another Method (From Jingyan Liang Fang)
Use 30-40 Castor Seeds (Bimamu Ren). Grind finely in mortar to extract oil. Spread on two sheets of paper. Burn one sheet over charcoal fire. Fumigate tongue. If not subsided, burn another sheet.
