If the pathogenic factors of Huoluan (cholera-like disease with sudden vomiting and diarrhea) accumulate in the epigastrium and do not dissipate, it leads to the obstruction of Qi mechanism. Therefore, in character dictionaries, "Pi" (fullness/stuffiness) is explained as "Pǐ" (obstruction), indicating a state of blockage. However, Pi syndrome belongs to deficiency patterns; it is painless upon palpation, although there is a sensation of Qi obstruction causing discomfort.
