The syndrome of Wind Swelling (Feng Zhong, swelling caused by wind pathogen) is characterized by absence of pain and redness, generalized edema, with the swelling rising like an inflated bladder. The patient feels only that the body is cold as stone, accompanied by irritability, fullness, shortness of breath, and heaviness in the bone joints.
This is generally what causes sudden onset of Wind Swelling in people. The swelling may occur in the four limbs, on the chest and back, or on the head and neck. During an attack, it presents as deficient-type edema, resembling a blown-up state, without pain or redness. If the wind pathogen attaches to the four limbs, it leads to immobility of the limbs.
