[Supplementary Discussion]
Taking tonifying medicines and using decoctions for washing/soaking are major taboos in treating Hong Kong Foot (a disease characterized by swelling and pain in the feet). This refers to cases where external dampness invades the body due to deficiency, leading to swelling and pain, which is common in southern regions.
[Formulas]
Fangji Gao (Prepared from *Shenghui Fang*), specifically treats wind-toxin of Hong Kong Foot, causing tendon contraction, stiffness, swelling, fullness, and pain.
Herbs: Hanfangji (*Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix*) (1 liang), Yege (*Kadsurae Longipedunculatae Caulis*) (1.5 liang), Xijiao xie (*Rhinocerotis Cornu* shavings) (1 liang), Mangcao (*Illicii Anisi Staranis Herba*) (1.5 liang), Chuanwutou (*Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata*) (1 liang, skin and umbilicus removed), Wuzhuyu (*Evodiae Fructus*) (1 liang), Mahuang (*Ephedrae Herba*) (1 liang), Ganjiang (*Zingiberis Rhizoma*) (1 liang), Badou (*Crotonis Fructus*) (1 liang, skin and heart removed), Xionghuang (*Realgar*) (1 liang, finely ground), Sheyancao (*Siphonostegiae Herba*) (1 liang), Fangfeng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*) (1 liang, radix removed), Biejia (*Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum*) (1 liang).
Preparation and Usage: Finely chop the above herbs, wrap in cotton cloth, soak in 2 sheng of vinegar, squeeze out the dregs, store in a porcelain vessel until cool. Apply to massage the affected area each time.
Formula for treating Hong Kong Foot with swelling, fullness, irritability, heat, and unbearable pain (from *Shenghui Fang*).
Herbs: Fangfeng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*, 1 liang, radix removed), Fuzi (*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata*, 1 liang, skin and umbilicus removed), Danggui (*Angelicae Sinensis Radix*) (1 liang), Tianliaomu (*Polygoni Amurensis Caulis*) (3 liang), Qianghuo (*Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix*) (1 liang), Xixin (*Asari Radix et Rhizoma*) (1 liang), Gen (*Radix*, half jin), Shuodiao (*Polygoni Multiflori Caulis*) (1 jin).
Preparation and Usage: Clean the herbs, remove dregs, pour or dip according to temperature, aiming for sweating. Strictly avoid wind.
Danshen Gao (Prepared from *Shenghui Fang*), specifically treats severe swelling of Hong Kong Foot wind-toxin that is difficult to dissipate; suitable for use.
Herbs: Danshen (*Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) (2 liang), Mangcao (*Illicii Anisi Staranis Herba*) (1 liang), Fuzi (*Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata*, 2 liang, skin and umbilicus removed), Hanfangji (*Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix*) (1 liang), Xiong (*Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma*) (1 liang), Chuanjiao (*Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*) (1 liang, eyes and closed mouths removed), Xijiao xie (*Rhinocerotis Cornu* shavings) (1 liang).
Preparation and Usage: Soak in 2 sheng of vinegar overnight, then simmer with high-quality lard into an ointment.
Yege Gao (Prepared from *Shenghui Fang*), specifically treats Hong Kong Foot. Internal medication should attack the pathogen, while external application involves ointment massage and moxibustion to vent the pathogen; this is a key technique for treating Hong Kong Foot. If there is tendon contraction or areas of numbness, frequently massage with this ointment. It also treats wind-toxin in Jiangnan, starting with swelling in hands and feet, spreading to the face, and entering the abdomen (which can be fatal); it also treats scrofula, malignant sores, carbuncles, calf swelling, foot weakness, hemiplegia, and various diseases. *Waitai Miyao* records a formula containing Shinan and Baizhi, totaling sixteen ingredients.
Herbs: Yege (*Kadsurae Longipedunculatae Caulis*, chopped), Sheyancao (*Siphonostegiae Herba*, chopped), Fangfeng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*, radix removed, 3 liang each), Xijiao (*Rhinocerotis Cornu*, sliced), Wutou (*Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata*, cracked, skin and umbilicus removed), Jiegeng (*Platycodonis Radix*, radix removed)... [Missing ingredients].
