Wind-toxic Hongjiao (foot rheumatism-heat disease) causing language impairment (slurred speech) is due to deficiency of Qi in the Spleen and Kidney, with dampness invading and penetrating the meridians. The Kidney meridian follows the throat and flanks the root of the tongue. The Spleen meridian flanks the pharynx.
Formula: Da Ba Feng Tang (Great Eight-Wind Decoction)
Indications: Hongjiao pathogenic factors attacking upward to the heart and abdomen, causing slurred speech.
Ingredients: Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, sliced and roasted), Dadou (Glycine max seeds, each 3 liang), Wutou (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, processed, peel and tip removed), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, black heart and peel removed), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra or Radix Paeoniae Alba), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae, heart removed), Duhuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii, seedlings and soil removed), [missing character] (black peel removed), Huang [missing character].
