The Heart is the root of life and the residence of the Shen (Spirit); therefore, it governs the five Zang organs. Diseases of foot weakness are mostly caused by Wind pathogen invasion, with Dampness being less common. Since Wind belongs to Yang,
Zhuli Tang (Carpinini Juice Decoction, from *Shenghui Fang*) treats Wind-toxin invading the interior of the five Zang organs, manifesting as shortness of breath, vexation and heat in the epigastrium, vexing pain in the hands and feet, inability to lift the four limbs, and insensitivity of the skin and flesh.
Herbs: Danggui Radix Angelicae Sinensis (2 liang), Fangfeng Radix Saposhnikoviae (3 liang), Shengjiang Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (8 liang), Baizhuus Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (3 liang), Renshen Radix Ginseng, Huangqin Cortex Scutellariae, Xiongchuang Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Xixin Herba Asari, Guixin Ramulus Cinnamomi (1 liang), Shengma Rhizoma Cimicifugae (2 liang).
Usage: Coarsely crush the above herbs, decoct in water, and divide into five doses for administration. If Fuling Poria is unavailable, Muxiang Radix Aucklandiae may be used instead.
Muxiang Tang (Aucklandiae Root Decoction) treats Hongxiangjiao Feng (Wind-pattern of Podagra/Foot Weakness) transmitting to the five Zang organs, characterized by hardness and fullness in the epigastrium, palpitations, and restlessness.
Herbs: Jinya (mineral drug, remove seedlings and leaves), Xixin Herba Asari, Yinyu Folium Ilicis Cornutae, Fangji Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae (remove rhizome), Ganjiang Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (processed), Fuzi Lateralis Radix Aconiti Preparata (processed until cracked, peel and remove umbilicus), Difushuo Radix Kochiae (raw, 6 liang).
Usage: Coarsely crush the above herbs, decoct in water. Take at any time without restriction; ensure the effect of alcohol continues in the body.
Duhuo Tang (Angelicae Pubescentis Root Decoction) treats cases where a Wind pattern precedes the onset of Hongxiangjiao. Symptoms include mental oppression and irritability, palpitations and insecurity, vomiting and abdominal distension immediately after eating.
Herbs: Duhuo Radix Angelicae Pubescentis (remove rhizome), Chi Fuling Poria Cum Rubro (remove black skin), Mahuang Herba Ephedrae (remove roots and joints, stir-fry), Chenpi Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (soak in boiling water, remove white pith, each 1.5 liang), Banxia Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum (wash in boiling water), coarsely crush and sieve.
Usage: Coarsely crush and sieve the above herbs, decoct in water. The disease will resolve upon completion.
Muxiang Wan (Aucklandiae Pill) treats Hongxiangjiao Feng transmitting to the five Zang organs, manifesting as restless sleep at night, palpitations in the heart, indecisiveness, and frequent urination.
Herbs: Muxiang Radix Aucklandiae, Shengma Rhizoma Cimicifugae, Baizhuus Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Zhike Fructus Aurantii Immaturus (remove pulp and bran, stir-fry), Shaoyao Radix Paeoniae Alba (each 1 liang), Bai Fuling Poria (remove black skin, slice), Dahuang Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (fine slice, lightly stir-fry).
Usage: Form into pills. Administer at noon daily.
Fuling Yin (Poria Infusion) treats swelling of both legs up to the knees, pulling pain in the lower abdomen, urgency of the Bladder, retention of old fluids not dispersing, occasional mental oppression, vague sleep at night, drowsiness, fever, and palpitations.
Herbs: Chi Fuling Poria Cum Rubro (remove black skin), Sangbaipian Cortex Mori Radicis (stir-fry and slice), Fangji Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, Yuliren Semen Pruni Armeniacae (soak in boiling water, remove peel and tip), Lingyangjiao Cornu Saigae Tataricae (shave into flakes), Muxiang Radix Aucklandiae, Binglang Semen Arecae (crushed, 5 pieces), Hongxue (Red Snow, 2.5 liang, added separately).
Usage: Except for Hongxue, coarsely crush and sieve the other herbs. For each dose, use 5 qian of the powder, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct to obtain 0.7 zhan. Strain the dregs, then add Hongxue.
Suanzaoren Tang (Ziziphus Seed Decoction) treats Wind-toxin scattering and attacking the Lower Jiao, cold Qi pouring into the four limbs causing pain, bi-syndrome of the feet and knees, Wind affecting the Liver, vague spirit, and tendon vessel spasticity.
Herbs: Suanzaoren Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (stir-fried, 2 liang), Yiyiren Semen Coicis (stir-fried, 1.5 liang), Renshen Radix Ginseng (3 liang), Fushen Poria Cum Radice (remove wood, 1 liang), Maimendong Radix Ophiopogonis (remove heart, bake), [missing weight] ban liang.
