What modern people call Hongxiangjiao is what the Yellow Emperor referred to as Huan Feng Shi Bi (Flaccid Wind-Damp Bi Syndrome). The *Qianjin Fang* states: Flaccidity and weakness are called Huan Feng (Flaccid Wind), while pain is called Shi Bi (Damp Bi). Generally, this disease does not respond to just three or five doses; it requires long-term administration to be effective. Zhang Wenzhong of the Tang Dynasty said: There are 124 types of wind and 80 types of qi disorders. Only Jiaoqi (Foot Qi), Toufeng (Head Wind), and Shangqi (Ascending Qi) require continuous medication. For others, treatment should be adjusted according to the specific manifestation. Individuals prone to wind-pathogens should undergo purging/drainage therapies in late spring/early summer and late autumn to prevent severe exacerbation. Such purging therapies include herbs like Ephedra, Pharbitis, and Prunus seeds; harsh cathartics are not necessary.
