For apoplexy (stroke), using Xuming Tang (Continuation Life Decoction), Paifeng Tang (Expel Wind Decoction), Fengyin Tang (Wind-Guiding Decoction), Zhuli Tang (Bamboo Juice Decoction) and other formulas, as well as Shenjing Dan (Spirit Essence Pill) and Yinyu Jiu (Ilex Wine) and similar preparations, combined with moxibustion, there is no case that cannot be cured. However, this disease accumulates over a long period and cannot be resolved in one day; it requires large doses administered over a long time to achieve efficacy. The Book of Tang records that Empress Dowager Wang suffered from stroke, losing her voice and remaining silent; physicians steamed several hu of Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) to fumigate her, resulting in recovery. This is likely of such a category. Nowadays, people seek results after taking only three or five bowls, blaming physicians for being too hasty. Mencius said: "A seven-year illness requires three-year-old mugwort," implying that only through time does one understand its nature.
Xiaoxuming Tang (Minor Continuation Life Decoction) and its modification methods

Crush the above ingredients into coarse granules. For each dose, take 5 qian, add 2 zhan of water and 5 slices of ginger, decoct until reduced to 1 zhan, strain away the dregs, and take warm at any time. If there is vexatious pain in bone joints accompanied by heat, remove Fuzi and double the dosage of Shaoyao; if spirit is vague and absent-minded, add Fuling and Yuanzhi, 1 liang each; if there is vexation and frequent fright, add Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, substitute with Niujia or Shui Niu Jiao in modern practice), half liang; if there is cold pain in the bones, double the dosage of Gui and Fuzi; if there is vomiting, reflux, abdominal distension, and fullness, double the dosage of Renshen and add Banxia, 1 liang; if there is restlessness, oppression, and constipation, remove Fuzi, double the dosage of Shaoyao, and add Zhuli (Bamboo Juice), 1 he, decoct together; if there is diarrhea due to internal cold of the zang-organs, remove Fangji and Huangqin, double the dosage of Fuzi to make a total of 1 liang, and add Baizhu, 1 liang.
