In the Renxu year, a soldier suffered from polydipsia, drinking one hu of water daily and not eating for three months, with mental restlessness. It was already October. I reasoned that there must be latent heat in the Heart channel. I administered this pill several times, 50 pills per dose, with warm water. Two days later, he came to thank me unbidden, saying: "After three doses on the first day, my thirst stopped. After three more doses the next day, my diet returned to normal." Although this formula is originally intended for treating Lin syndrome, using it to treat polydipsia confirms that the key to medication lies in flexible adaptation.
