发明 《和剂局方》治诸虚损有腽肭脐丸。滋阴丸药中用之,精不足者,补之以味也。
今人多于房术方中用之,亦可同糯米法曲酿酒服。但功专补阳,阴虚切忌。此物牝者最多,

Invention: The mountain otter (Shanta) inherits the pure yang qi of the deep south; therefore, its nature is extremely lustful. It specifically treats yang deficiency leading to impotence and cold semen. In the mountains, where this animal exists, all female beasts avoid it. If a male otter has no mate, it will embrace a tree until it withers and dies. When women enter the mountains in spring, the otter smells the scent of women, leaps over to embrace them for copulation, holding on so firmly that it cannot be detached; thus, people strangle it to obtain its genitalia.
Also known as Sea Dog Kidney (Wanaqi).
Salty, very hot, non-toxic. If stored together with Sichuan pepper (Hanjiao) and camphor (Zhangnao), it will not spoil.
Invention: The *Heji Jufang* (Formulas of the Bureau of Taiyi) contains Wanaqi Wan for treating various deficiencies and damages. It is used in yin-nourishing pills because "for those whose essence is insufficient, supplementation should be done with substances of strong flavor." Nowadays, people often use it in sexual enhancement formulas; it can also be fermented into wine with glutinous rice and yeast. However, its efficacy is specialized in tonifying yang, and it is strictly contraindicated for those with yin deficiency. This species is mostly female, while males are extremely rare. People in Haizhou, upon catching a female, sew a domestic dog's testicle onto it using tendons, ironing and shaping it so that it looks indistinguishable from a natural specimen. However, the female's vulva is connected to the anus; even when sewn with raw tendons and shaped, the opening is larger and longer than that of the male. This serves as the most reliable method for differentiation.
Sweet, warm, non-toxic. The method for extracting the gallbladder is to tie a live mouse securely, drown it in hot water, cut open the throat, and extract the gallbladder. The genuine one is bright red. Accidentally consuming leftovers eaten by mice can cause sores, due to the accumulation of desire-fire and saliva.
Invention: Gui Water (Kidney Water) corresponds to the Earthly Branch Zi, and its qi connects to the Kidneys. Its eyes see clearly at night, and its essence resides in the gallbladder. Therefore, the gallbladder can treat deafness and blindness. Mouse eyes brighten vision, and mouse bones promote tooth growth; these are all proofs of benefiting the kidneys. The *Zhouhou Fang* treats thirty-year chronic deafness or sudden deafness, which heals after no more than three applications. Have the patient lie on their side, drip gallbladder juice into the ear until one whole gallbladder is used up. Within moments, the fluid drains out from below the ear. Initially, hearing may seem worse, but it improves after ten days. Applying fresh mouse blood mixed with green salt to brush teeth is also effective. Immersing newborn mice in sesame oil until they decompose, then applying the liquid to burns yields good results. A small amount of water can control excessive fire; however, if the mouse has grown fur, it cannot be dissolved. The feces of male mice are commonly called "Two-Ended Point" (Liangtoujian); only those that are straight are confirmed as male mouse feces. They enter the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Thus, decocting and taking them orally treats Cold Damage, relapse due to overexertion (Laofu), exchange of yin and yang (Yinyangyi), and abdominal pain. Taking them as a powder treats breast abscess (Ruyong). Burning them to ash while retaining their medicinal properties and applying externally treats traumatic injuries and carbuncles. These indications all pertain to diseases of the Jueyin blood level. Additionally, for dog bites, first wash away tooth debris and bad blood, then apply a paste made from stir-fried and powdered mouse feces mixed with brown sugar, which leads to recovery.
