The meat is salty, hot in nature, and non-toxic.
[Invention] Wild wolf fat is the first choice for massage to treat wind pathogens, yet it is not recorded in the *Bencao* (Materia Medica), which is a regret. Wild wolf meat tonifies the five Zang organs, thickens the intestines and stomach, and fills the bone marrow; it is suitable for people with cold accumulation. The nature of wild wolves chases wind and moves in reverse; thus, when their feces are burned, the smoke rises against the wind. Burning the feces into ash and taking it with water treats fish bones stuck in the throat (Gu Geng), because its medicinal property is specifically reverse-moving without obstruction.
Rabbit meat is acrid, neutral in nature, and non-toxic. Pregnant women should avoid eating rabbit meat; consuming it with dried ginger causes Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome).
[Invention] Rabbits lack a spleen, hence they run swiftly. In the second month, corresponding to the Mao position in Earthly Branches, Wood overcomes Wu Earth (the Spleen belongs to Earth); therefore, it is said that rabbits have no spleen. Rabbit meat is cold in nature and can treat vomiting and counterflow qi due to Stomach heat, as well as intestinal redness and bleeding. The brain is the essence of marrow; its nature is slippery and promotes abortion, so Rabbit Brain Pills are the primary medicine for inducing labor. However, live rabbits must be caught in the twelfth lunar month for efficacy. Rabbit liver brightens the eyes; since the eyes belong to the Liver, it possesses unique Qi and receives the essence of extreme Yin, capable of treating dim vision. The feces are called "Mingyue Sha" or "Wangyue Sha," treating floating nebulae in the eyes (corneal opacities) and eye diseases caused by smallpox. As long as the pupil is undamaged, calcining the feces until carbonized and taking it daily will cause the nebulae to recede. Another prescription uses rabbit feces alone powdered, mixed with raw chicken liver pounded into pills, taken on an empty stomach with Gujing Cao (Eclipta Prostrata) decoction. For dense nebulae, adding Ji Neijin (Chicken Gizzard Lining) is especially effective; it also treats Laozai (consumptive disease), the five types of Ganji (childhood malnutrition syndromes), hemorrhoids, kills parasites, and detoxifies. The *Huangdi* states: consuming rabbit meat with otter liver forms Dunshi (a type of infectious corpse-transmission disease).
Fox meat is sweet, neutral in nature, and slightly toxic.
[Invention] Foxes belong to the Yin category; thus, their penis treats female infertility, pruritus vulvae, and pediatric scrotal swelling, because the fox's genitalia has the ability to retract into the abdomen.
Otter meat is sweet and salty, neutral in nature, and slightly toxic.
[Invention] Otters are aquatic animals. Water is agile and intelligent, so the otter's nature is also cunning and wise. Otters specialize in devouring fish; the vital energy of fish gathers in the liver; therefore, otter liver specializes in treating Chuanshi Laozhai (chronic consumptive diseases like tuberculosis). Its insect-killing property is no different from the otter's fishing skill. Su Song stated that the livers of various livestock have a fixed number of lobes, but the otter's liver grows one lobe per month, with degenerated lobes appearing between the twelfth lobe. When the Big Dipper points to the Yin position (first lunar month), it coincides with the time of Qi decline, making it vulnerable to erosion by various fish; this is what the *Yueling* refers to as "Otters Sacrificing Fish." Because it is effective in treating Zhai, Zhang Zhongjing used Otter Liver Pills for Cold Lao. Cui Shi also used Otter Liver Pills for Gu Zhu. Meng Shen said that for patients suffering from Zhu diseases, one otter liver roasted over fire, taken with water in a dose of one Fangcunbi twice daily, is effective. Ge Hong stated that Shizhu is one of the five Zhu diseases; it causes alternating chills and fever, silence and depression, unknown sources of pain, and general discomfort, dragging on for months and years until death, after which it transmits to others, potentially wiping out a family. If such symptoms are detected, one otter liver dried in the shade and powdered, taken with water in a dose of one Fangcunbi three times daily until recovery, is recommended. If otter liver is unavailable, otter claws can also be used. For pediatric Gui Zhu and various fish bones stuck in the throat, burning them to ash and taking with wine is effective. The use of otter liver generally does not exceed these applications.
