Promotes circulation, expels evil qi, stops bleeding, and generates flesh.
Acrid and warm. Expels strange and evil qi. Treats traumatic injuries and metal-blade wounds. Stops bleeding, alleviates pain, reduces swelling, and generates flesh. (Zhou Chong was slashed by a pirate, with unceasing bleeding; applying Huarui Shi San [Flower Corundum Powder] was ineffective. Soldier Li Gao applied Zijin Teng San [Purple Gold Vine Powder], stopping the blood and pain; scabs formed the next day without scars. It had saved ten thousand people. Zijin Teng is the best quality of Jiangzhen Xiang [Draconis Resina].) Contraindicated with Tanxiang [Sandalwood]. When burned, it causes other aromatics to descend, hence its name. (For metal-blade wound bleeding, use Jiangxiang [Draconis Resina], Beizi [Galla Chinensis], and Tonghua [Koelreuteria Paniculata Flower] in equal parts, powdered and applied externally.)
Promotes circulation, regulates qi.
Acrid, warm, and aromatic with penetrating properties. Ascends to enter the Spleen and Lung meridians; descends to connect with the Bladder and Kidney meridians. It can disperse rebellious evil qi in the chest and abdomen. All diseases related to qi disorders can be treated. (Simo Tang [Four-Grind Decoction] treats panting and急促 breathing caused by emotional stagnation; this formula combines astringency with descending qi, and purgation with tonification. The prescription uses Renshen [Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma], Wuyao [Linderae Radix], Chenxiang [Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum], and Binglang [Arecae Semen] in equal parts, ground into thick juice, mixed and decocted for administration.] When qi flows smoothly, wind disperses; thus, it is used to treat Zhongqi [Qi Stroke] and Zhongfeng [Wind Stroke]. (Jue Ni [Rebellious Qi] with phlegm obstruction, locked jaw, and hidden pulse: body warmth indicates Zhongfeng; body coldness indicates Zhongqi. There is also Zhongfeng due to phlegm, and Zhongqi without phlegm. Ju Fang [Bureau Formulas] treats these conditions using Wuyao Shunqi San [Lindera Regulating Qi Powder]. Scholar Xu stated: Violent anger injures Yin; violent joy injures Yang; endless worry leads to excessive rebellious qi, often resulting in Zhongqi syndromes, which should not be treated as Zhongfeng. Sudden collapse in the elderly is generally due to the decline of qi and blood and the separation of yin and yang, what Zhang Jingyue called "Non-Wind." If there is no phlegm or qi obstruction, major tonification should be used to secure the collapse.) For Cold Qi in the Bladder, frequent urination, leukorrhea (Bai Zhuo), regurgitation and vomiting, undigested food retention, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, women's blood stasis and qi stagnation, pediatric ascariasis, and external conditions such as sores, boils, scabies, and leprosy—all stemming from rebellious blood—can also be treated by regulating qi. It can also treat various diseases in cats and dogs. Contraindicated in cases of qi and blood deficiency with internal heat. Roots with cartwheel-like patterns and shapes resembling linked pearls are superior. Soak in wine overnight, then stir-fry. Some are used directly in powder form.
