Human Urine (Ren Niao): Treats alternating chills and fever, headache, and warm qi disease (Recorded by famous physicians). [Usage] Urine from a healthy boy or girl is best. [Taste] Salty. [Nature] Cold, soft texture. [Qi and Taste] The odor and taste are strong; it belongs to Yin. [Functions] Brightens the eyes and enhances the voice. [Indications] [Therapy] [Note from *Tang Bencao*]: Decoct urine and take orally, one sheng per dose. It treats sudden blood stasis attacking the heart; internal blood stasis resulting from blunt trauma; and abdominal fullness due to zheng ji (masses) that has not responded to various medications. After administration, clots of blood will be discharged. It also treats chronic cough, rebellious qi, and aphonia. ○ Bamboo or wood found in a latrine pit: Treats delayed tooth eruption in children. Scrape the material on the first day of the New Year and apply it to the gums; teeth will grow. [Ri Hua Zi states]: Stops labor-related thirst, moistens the lungs and heart, treats blood heat, manic delirium, traumatic injuries, blood stasis, syncope, and fatigue; washing the skin with it treats fissures and moisturizes the skin. For bites from snakes or dogs, pour hot urine over the affected area. [Chen Zangqi states]: Moisturizes the skin, promotes bowel movement, eliminates stale pathogens and generates new ones, stops cough, treats fei wei (lung atrophy), and gui qi disease. Urine that has been stored for a long time and has an odor is better, but because its nature is cold, it should be taken warm after being mixed with hot substances for optimal effect. [Combined Therapy]: Decoct urine with scallion and fermented soybean to make a soup; take it to treat initial onset of headache. ○ Take one sheng of urine, add one fen each of ginger and scallion, boil for three boils, and drink while hot. This immediately treats difficult labor and retained placenta.
Niu Bai (Ren Zhong Bai / Human Urine Deposit): Treats epistaxis (nosebleed) and burns/scalds (Recorded by famous physicians). [Name] Ren Zhong Bai. [Color] White. [Taste] Salty. [Nature] Cool, soft texture. [Qi and Taste] The odor and taste are strong; it belongs to Yin. [Odor] Fishy/ammoniacal. [Functions] Treats chuan shi re lao (consumptive fever/tuberculosis), ge re (epigastric heat), and fei wei (lung atrophy). [Preparation] Grind into a fine powder. [Indications] [Therapy] [Note from *Tang Bencao*]: Calcine, grind into a fine powder, and apply to tight lip sores for excellent results. [Ri Hua Zi states]: Stops hematemesis, severe epistaxis, emaciation, and thirst diseases. [Combined Therapy]: Take an unspecified amount of Ren Zhong Bai, scrape it onto a new tile, dry it over fire, grind it, add a small amount of She Xiang (Musk), mix with wine, and take 3 qian. It stops bleeding, sweating, and epistaxis; cases lasting five to seven days will heal immediately. ○ Qiu Shi Huan Yuan Dan: Warms and tonifies, improves complexion, promotes appetite, benefits the lower yuan (kidney essence), cures hundred diseases with long-term use, strengthens bone marrow, nourishes blood, opens the mind, and benefits willpower. Method for refining Ren Zhong Bai: Collect ten sheng of urine from men (more is acceptable). First, set up a large stove in an empty room. Place a deep ceramic steamer basket (Zeng) over the pot mouth to catch vapors, raising it high. Seal the seams of the steamer and the pot mouth with mud made from paper fibers and forged stone dust to prevent air leakage. Once dry, pour in the urine, filling only up to 70-80% of the pot and steamer. Boil over open flame under the supervision of a person. If the liquid surges up, add a little cold urine to prevent overflow. Continue boiling until dry. Grind finely and store in a good box. Seal it properly as per method, place in a charcoal furnace, and calcine. Retrieve two or three liang periodically, grind again into a powder. Make pills using jujube paste, sized like mung beans. Take 5-7 pills initially, gradually increasing to 15 pills on an empty stomach with warm wine or salt water. Long-term use keeps the area below the navel warm as if heated by fire, curing all types of cold diseases. Even severe cases of chronic cold consumption and debility will regain strength. Keep this medicine near fire, or occasionally re-warm it for three to five days to enhance efficacy.
