Shicao Shi (Fruit of *Lycium chinense* or similar, contextually ambiguous but treated as a distinct herb entry here), Sweet flavor, Neutral nature, Non-toxic. Mainly treats hunger suppression and lightens the body. Grows on islets in the East Sea. Resembles naked oat (*Avena nuda*), ripens in autumn. Also known as Yuyuliang (Yu's Excess Grain), but it is not the excess grain of stones.
*Haiyao Bencao* (Sea Medicines from the Herbal Classic) records: Its fruit resembles a ball, harvested in August. It is a food commonly eaten by locals, mainly treating deficiency emaciation, weakness, and damage; warms the stomach and intestines, and stops vomiting and reflux. Long-term consumption promotes health. Also known as Ranqiao, which has not been seen by Chinese people.
Hanshi (Cold Food, likely referring to a specific plant part or preparation mentioned in context, possibly *Elaeagnus* or similar wild edible), Mainly eliminates scars. For old scars and miscellaneous sores, grind finely and apply externally. Its ash mainly treats post-illness fatigue.
*Mingyi Bielu* (Recorded by Famous Physicians) records: Treats Jiaoleng Jia (abdominal mass attributed to dragon/serpent influence). Use Hanshi Tang (Sweet maltose made from cold food ingredients) three jin. Take five he per dose, three times a day. Subsequently vomits out the Jiaolong (dragon/serpent), some with two heads and tails.
Mi (Rice, specifically a wild or specific variety described here), Sweet flavor, Cold nature, Non-toxic. Main promotes intestinal fluid flow, benefits Qi and strength. Long-term consumption prevents hunger, clears heat, and benefits the person. Can be cooked as rice. Grows in paddy fields. The seedling resembles wheat but is smaller, ripening in April. *Erya* calls it Shoutian, resembling oats, edible. Also known as Shouqi.
Yelangwei Caozi (Seeds of Wild Wolf-tail Grass, likely *Pennisetum* species), can be eaten like millet, suppressing hunger. Produces spikes like reeds, growing in marshy areas. *Guangzhi* states it can be used as millet. *Erya* refers to it as Meng Yelangwei. People today call it Yelangmaozi. Kuai Caozi (Seeds of *Miscanthus* or similar grass) are also edible, resembling japonica rice. Seedlings resemble reeds.
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Non-toxic.
Dadou (Soybean), Plant-based origin.
Sheng Dadou (Raw Soybean) (From *Shennong Bencao Jing*): Applied topically for carbuncles and swellings; decocted juice drunk to kill "ghost toxins" (metaphorical for severe pathogens/toxins) and relieve pain. (The above in red characters, from *Shennong Bencao Jing*).
Promotes urination to reduce water retention, clears Heat-Bi in the stomach, treats injury from damp-cold exposure, expels blood stasis, disperses accumulations in the five zang organs, treats internal cold, and neutralizes Wutou (Aconite) toxicity. Long-term use makes the body feel heavy. Stir-fried into powder, sweet flavor, mainly treats stomach Heat, reduces swelling, relieves Bi-syndrome, aids digestion, and stops abdominal distension. (The above in black characters, recorded by famous physicians).
[Seedling] (*Tujing Bencao* says): Seedlings grow two to three chi high, stems and leaves have hairs, flowers are white, form pods, harvested in autumn. The beans come in black and white varieties; black ones are used medicinally, white ones are not. Those that are tight and small are considered "male" and are superior for medicinal use. The nature of the bean is originally neutral, but processing yields various effects. Decocted juice is very cool, capable of suppressing Dan-Shi (mineral pill) toxicity and resolving general drug toxicities. Made into tofu, it is cold and moves Qi; stir-fried, it is hot; mixed with wine, it treats wind; made into douchi (fermented soybean), it is extremely cold; huangjuan (sprouted soybeans) and jiang (soy sauce/paste) are neutral. Cows eating it become warm; horses eating it become cool. Same substance, different uses. Generally suitable for medicinal use. Immortal methods process it into powder for fasting to survive famine years, but excessive consumption causes heaviness, returning to normal after a while. (Chen Cangqi says)
One type of Lv Dou (Donkey Bean, likely *Vicia faba* or similar legume), Sweet flavor, Non-toxic, grows in fields. Small. *Erya* says: Rongshu, also known as Ludou, also known as Lv Dou. Stir-fry until black and hot, add to wine, drink slowly to dispel thief-wind and wind-Bi. Further treats cold blood in women after childbirth. Also suitable for making paste.
