Tonifying the Spleen Earth.
Beef is sweet and warm in nature, belonging to the Earth element. It stabilizes the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), tonifies the Spleen, benefits Qi, and stops thirst. (The "Dao Cang Fa" [Reversing the Granary Method]: Use twenty jin of male yellow beef, wash it clean, boil it into a porridge-like consistency, filter out the dregs, and simmer until it becomes amber-colored. Fast on the previous night; on the day of treatment, sit in a sealed room on an empty stomach. Drink one cup of the juice at a time. After a short while, drink again, accumulating dozens of cups. The body will feel painful. If the pathogen is in the upper part, vomiting occurs; if in the lower part, diarrhea occurs; if in the middle, both vomiting and diarrhea occur. After diarrhea, thirst must arise; immediately drink several bowls of one's own urine to cleanse residual impurities. When hungry and fatigued, first give rice water; on the second day, give light congee; then thick congee and soft rice. Nourish and recuperate for one month, and chronic ailments will be completely resolved. Sexual intercourse must be abstained from for half a year, and beef consumption avoided for five years. Zhu Danxi said: "The Ox corresponds to Kun Earth, with yellow as the central color. Beef is medicine for the Stomach, while milk is formless substance!" Accumulations that have persisted for a long time lodge in the winding parts of the intestines and stomach; how could small amounts of pills or powders invade them? Beef and milk fill and circulate throughout the body, reaching everywhere, like a flood rising, carrying away all stagnation along the current. This prescription was transmitted by a foreigner from the Western Regions. Performing it once or twice after middle age is also an aid to dispelling disease and nurturing longevity. Wang Lun said: "Beef tonifies the Middle Qi; it is not a direct emetic or purgative, but uses tonification to achieve purgation, and through purgation achieves tonification. It is indeed a miraculous prescription." Zhu Danxi treated Lin Defang who suffered from coughing and hemoptysis. He reasoned that resolving Lung obstruction required emesis, but blood depletion required tonification. Only the Dao Cang Fa combined both methods, and the patient recovered after taking it. He also treated Xiao Boshan for turbid stool and seminal emission using the Dao Cang Fa, resulting in recovery. He also treated Duke Xu Wen Yi for heart pain. Previous treatments with drying herbs, spiritual elixirs, and moxibustion had failed for years, leading the patient to consider himself hopeless. Zhu Danxi first used Fangfeng Tongsheng San to purge accumulations, slightly improving the condition and restoring appetite. However, the legs were difficult to move. The following year, he performed the Dao Cang Fa, with effects appearing step by step. The patient later fathered a son and lived for fourteen more years. He also treated Brother Lin from Linhai who suffered from chronic cough and hemoptysis, fever, and emaciation. Others diagnosed it as Tuberculosis (Lao Zai), but various remedies failed. Zhu Danxi palpated the pulse, finding both hands wiry and rapid, with symptoms lighter during the day and heavier at night. At a loss for ideas, and noting it was winter, he used the Dao Cang Fa to stabilize the condition. The patient subsequently fathered a son the following year.)
Cow's milk is sweet and slightly cold. It moistens the intestines and stomach, resolves heat toxicity, tonifies deficiency and fatigue, and treats regurgitation and dysphagia (Gastric dryness or coldness, where the Spleen fails to grind food, leads to rebellious Qi causing regurgitation. Insufficiency of Qi and Blood is the root cause; Phlegm-Fluids and Food Retention are the branch manifestations. For gastric dryness, nourish Blood and generate fluids; for gastric coldness, warm the Middle and regulate Qi. Li Dongyuan said: "Vomiting from the Upper Jiao stems from Qi disorders; treatment lies in harmonizing the Middle and descending Qi. Vomiting from the Middle Jiao stems from retention; treatment lies in moving Qi and resolving retention. Vomiting from the Lower Jiao stems from Cold; treatment lies in warming the Middle and dispersing Cold." Zhu Danxi said: "For regurgitation and dysphagia accompanied by dry constipation, it is advisable to swallow cow or sheep milk frequently, combined with Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) as the best strategy. Human milk should not be taken, as it contains the toxicity of the Five Flavors and the fire of the Seven Emotions." Ang notes: "For dysphagia with obstruction, taking aromatic-drying herbs may provide temporary relief, but this breaks Qi and dries Blood, hastening death. It is better to take less medicine and drink cow's milk mixed with chive juice, or ginger juice, or aged wine. Officials in Jiangnan often suffered from aphagic dysentery, unable to eat even a grain of rice. Zheng Dianyi prescribed cow's milk, which cured them after prolonged use)."
Water buffalo throat treats regurgitation with vomiting of food and intestinal obstruction (Remove both ends, discard the fatty membrane, soak in vinegar, roast, and powder. Take two qian per dose, washed down with aged rice water).
Su (Clarified Butter), Lao (Yogurt/Curd), Ti (Cream), and Hu (Ghee) are all made from cow or sheep milk. They are nourishing, moistening, and lubricating, suitable for individuals with Blood Heat and dryness. Ox gallbladder: Insert Duan Shi (Calcined Stone/Alum) inside, hang in a ventilated place for one hundred days. It is excellent for treating traumatic injuries (Jin Chuang).
