Collect it in a vessel. Use it to wash the head; it makes long hair black and lustrous. Using a comb to massage the infant's head every morning is beneficial over time. For various types of pediatric malnutrition (Gan syndrome) affecting the whole body, or sores on the face that ulcerate into holes resembling mulberry sores (Yangmei Chuang), which are unresponsive to various medicines, apply the steam-water from steaming glutinous rice (Zeng Qi Shui) to the sores. Healing occurs within a few days.
Slippery in nature. It can reach upwards to the vertex and downwards to the sole. It is suitable for decocting medicines for the four extremities. (*Shuowen Jiezi* states: A clepsydra (Lou) receives water from a bronze urn, marked with divisions for day and night, totaling 100 marks. *Rites of Zhou* states: The Keeper of Urns manages the water vessels, guarding them with fire and water to distinguish day and night. In winter, fire is used to boil water in a ding vessel, which is then poured into the clepsydra. Zheng Kangcheng notes: Since water freezes in winter, fire is used to boil water for pouring, termed "Wo Lou".)
Indicated for carbuncles, ulcers, and back abscesses that fail to suppurate, necrotic flesh that does not rot, as well as yin sores, scrofula (Luo Li), flowing nodules (Liu Zhu), and stubborn sores. Extinguish the open flame of the moxa fire. Apply heat twice daily. Before ulceration, it draws out toxins and relieves pain; after ulceration, it supplements yang qi, removes necrotic tissue, and generates new flesh. All tonifying medicines and various pastes should be decocted using this type of fire.
Oak charcoal fire is suitable for refining all kinds of mineral and metallic drugs. Wood charcoal fire is suitable for cooking, decocting, roasting, and drying various pills and powders.
It is suitable for decocting all kinds of nourishing and tonifying medicines.
At areas where yang collaterals are abundant, dip rush pith (Deng Xin) in sesame oil, light it, and use the flame to cauterize. This is effective. External hemorrhoids with swelling and pain can also be treated by cauterization. Oil dispels wind and resolves toxicity; fire unblocks meridians. For newborns who are nearly dying due to exposure to cold pathogenic factors, do not cut the umbilical cord immediately. Quickly wrap the infant in heated cotton wadding, heat the placenta, and use a lamp wick to moxibustion-scorch the area below the navel repeatedly. Warm qi enters the abdomen; when qi returns, consciousness is restored. Additionally, heating the handle of a copper spoon and applying it to the inner eyelid effectively dispels wind and reduces redness. Only lamps using sesame oil (Huma You) or perilla seed oil (Suzi You) can brighten the eyes and treat diseases; smoke from other oil lamps damages the eyes and does not treat disease.
Indicated for dressing metal wounds (Jin Chuang), stopping bleeding, and generating flesh. For infants with evil heat in the heart causing incessant nocturnal crying, mix two or three lamp flowers and smear them on the nipple for the infant to suckle; crying stops immediately. Adding a small amount of Cinnabar (Chensha) enhances efficacy.
Moxibustion treats all diseases. If treating various wind-cold disorders, adding a small amount of powdered Pyrite (Shi Liu Huang) is even more effective.
