Treats cold pain in the heart and abdomen. Bi syndrome (obstruction syndrome) caused by wind-cold-dampness. Yin abscesses penetrating to the bone. For any hidden pain in the muscles and bones, heating the needle so that the fire energy reaches the painful area directly is very effective.
The preparation of Shen Zhen Huo (Divine Needle Fire): On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, select peach branches growing towards the east and carve them into wooden needles. The length should be about five or six cun, similar to the size of a chicken egg. Dry them thoroughly until completely dry. When using, place three to five layers of cotton paper over the affected area, dip the needle in sesame oil, ignite it, blow out the flame, and press the hot needle onto the affected area.
Formula: Use 2 liang of processed Qi Ai Ye (Artemisia argyi Leaf) powder, and 1 qian each of Rush Xiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrh), Chuanshanjia (Pangolin Scales), Liuhuang (Sulfur), Caowutou (Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root prepared), Chuanwutou (Aconitum carmichaelii lateral root prepared), and Taoshupi (Peach Bark) powders. Add 5 fen of Shexiang (Musk), grind all into fine powder, and mix with the Ai Ye powder. Cut thick paper into strips, spread the medicinal Ai Ye inside, roll tightly to the thickness of a finger, about 3-4 cun long, and store in a bottle. Bury underground for seven days, then retrieve. When using, ignite on a lamp, blow out the flame, place ten layers of paper between the needle and the skin, and press the hot needle onto the affected area. The heat penetrates directly, making the effect even faster. Avoid cold water.
(Zao Xin Tu / Hearth Earth) Sweet and warm. Treats coldness in the Water Organ (Kidney/Bladder) in men and coldness in the Zi Gong (Uterus) in women. Sudden violent coughing, wind-heat causing red and rotting eyes, Fan Wei (reverse regurgitation/vomiting), diarrhea, and dysentery. Grind into powder and apply externally to treat prickly heat itching. Grind and mix with raw sesame oil to apply; it is good for sores. (This is Zao Xin Huang Tu / Hearth Yellow Earth).
(Hearth Earth) Pungent and warm. Harmonizes the Middle Jiao, stops bleeding, removes dampness, and reduces swelling. Treats ke ni (rebellious qi/cough), Fan Wei (reverse regurgitation), Tu Nu (vomiting blood/nosebleed), Beng Dai (metrorrhagia and leukorrhea), Niao Xue (hematuria), and Yi Jing (seminal emission). Mix with vinegar and apply to treat Chang Feng (intestinal wind/hemorrhoids) and Yong Zhong (carbuncles). Grind into powder and apply to umbilical sores. In the twelfth lunar month, mix with pig lard or egg white to apply for Dan Du (erysipelas). Mix with water and take orally to induce labor and deliver the placenta. This is Zao Xin Huang Tu (Hearth Yellow Earth). The part facing the furnace bottom for many years is best. Do not use if there is no dampness. (Combined with Sheng Di Huang, Huang Qin, Bai Zhu, E Jiao, Zhi Gan Cao, and Pao Jiang, it is named Huang Tu Tang [Yellow Earth Decoction] to treat metrorrhagia and various bleeding disorders in women; combined with E Jiao and Can Sha, it treats uterine bleeding; combined with Fu Zi, Huang Qin, and E Jiao, it treats blood after defecation.)
(Wall Earth) Sweet and warm. Treats Huo Luan (cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea) with restlessness, diarrhea/dysentery, Wen Nue (warm malaria), lower body sores, rectal prolapse, Xiao Er Qi Feng (infantile tetanus/moon-lock), and rubs for dry/wet tinea. This is earth from the outer wall of a house facing east. Stir with fresh well water, clarify, and drink to treat cholera vomiting and diarrhea. Those who crave eating dirt (pica) can be cured by taking this earth mixed with water.
(Ink) Pungent and warm, stops bleeding and generates flesh. If flying silk or dust enters the eye, grind ink thickly and apply as drops. Pack into the nostrils to stop Bi Nu (nosebleed). Grind with pig bile or vinegar juice and apply to carbuncles. Grind with wine and take orally to treat retained placenta. On the noon hour of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, fill a piece of ink into the mouth of a toad and dry it in the sun. Retrieve the ink at dusk and release the toad. This ink is extremely effective for treating blood disorders. Song Yan Mo (Pine Soot Ink) is superior.
