[Green Bean]
Indications: Clears heat and detoxifies. Reduces swelling and suppurates pus in the intestines and stomach, stops vomiting and regurgitation. Harmonizes the five Zang organs, calms the spirit, and unblocks the twelve meridians. Resolves all toxins from various herbs, cattle, horses, metals, and stones. Using green beans as a pillow improves vision.
Green bean powder indications: Clears heat and benefits Qi. Treats cholera with muscle cramps (mixed with water for oral administration). Treats back carbuncles, sores, swellings, and beat injuries (fried, ground into powder, mixed with egg white for external application). Treats wet and ulcerated smallpox lesions (dry powder applied externally). Treats scalds and burns. Resolves poisoning from various drugs, wild mushrooms, arsenic, and food or alcohol intoxication.
Green bean drink prescription: Take 2.5 he of green beans and one large garlic clove (peeled, navel removed, cut in half), add three bowls of water, and boil until cooked. Eat the beans on an empty stomach before going to bed. On the second day, take two slices of Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), cut each slice into four pieces, and cook/eat them with 2.5 he of green beans as done previously. On the third day, prepare green beans and Fuzi again according to the method of the first day. On the fourth day, follow the method of the second day. This treats ten types of fluid retention diseases; water is excreted via urination, and swelling subsides naturally. If swelling does not resolve, continue taking it. Avoid cold, raw, toxic foods, salt, and alcohol for sixty days.
Another prescription: One liang of green bean powder, one qian of Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), one qian of Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix), ground into fine powder, mixed evenly with bean powder. Take 0.5 to 1 qian per dose, administered with warm Dou Chi Tang (Fermented Soybean Decoction). Subsequently, administer another prescription targeting the specific syndrome. This treats symptoms such as restlessness, oppression, irritability, nausea, mania, and excessive thirst caused by accidentally ingesting hot-toxic agents.
Huxin San (Heart-Protecting Powder) prescription: One liang of green bean powder, half a liang of Ruxiang (Olibanum), and Dengxin Cao (Junci Medulla) are ground together evenly. Mix with a strong decoction of Sheng Gancao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and take one qian, sipping frequently. This treats early-stage carbuncles and sores. Within three days, it is advisable to take more than ten doses consecutively to drive the toxin outward; if delayed, the toxic qi will attack internally, leading to gradual ulceration, infection, anorexia, and critical condition. From the fourth to fifth day, intermittent dosing is also suitable. If the toxic qi attacks the heart, presenting with vomiting and rebellious Qi, this medicine should be taken in larger quantities.
[White Hyacinth Bean]
Indications: Harmonizes the middle jiao, directs Qi downward, tonifies the five Zang organs, and stops vomiting, regurgitation, cholera, and diarrhea/vomiting (ground into powder and taken with vinegar). Resolves alcohol toxicity, pufferfish toxicity, and all herbal plant toxins (chewed raw or drunk as a boiled juice).
Flower indications: Treats metrorrhagia and metrostaxis that does not stop (ground into powder, take 2 qian per dose, mixed with a decoction of fried rice and a little salt on an empty stomach). This method can also be used for dysentery.
Leaf indications: Treats cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, and zheng jia (abdominal masses) (roasted with vinegar, ground, and taken). Externally applied to treat snake bites.
Jindou Wan (Golden Bean Pill) prescription: Bai Biandou (White Hyacinth Bean) (soaked and peeled), processed into powder juice, mixed with honey to form pills the size of wu zi (wu seed). Take 20–30 pills per dose, administered with Tianhuafen juice (Trichosanthis Radix juice), twice daily. Treats xiao ke (wasting-thirst syndrome) with excessive drinking. Avoid fried, roasted foods, alcohol, and sexual activity. After thirst ceases, continue administering kidney-nourishing medicines.
