Produced in Shiniu Township, Shiquan County, Long'an Prefecture, Sichuan Province, those with a red color resembling blood are considered superior. *Sichuan Tongzhi* records: It is found below the Yu Cave in Shiquan; the stone's skin appears as if dyed with blood, has a fishy odor, and when brewed and drunk with boiling water, it can induce labor. It treats difficult childbirth.
*Ganyuan Xiaoshi* records: Taohua Yan (Peach Blossom Salt) is produced in Zewang. In late spring, its color is red like peach blossoms; by summer, the redness gradually fades; in autumn and winter, it turns white; and in spring, it becomes red again. For patients with stomach pain, applying this salt via hot compressing stops the pain immediately.
*Chibei Outan* records: A son of a commoner in Gaoyang, aged over ten, suddenly developed an old tumor on his arm, causing unbearable pain and itching; physicians could not identify the condition. One day, it suddenly ulcerated, and a round, egg-like object fell out, which subsequently turned into a stone. Liu Gongbu purchased it for one tael of gold and used it to treat Gezheng (diaphragmatic obstruction) with miraculous effect. It treats Pi Jie Gezheng (痞结膈症 - obstructive diaphragmatic disease).
*Tangshu* records: In the eastern territory of Pugu, at Kangyu River, pine trees broken off and thrown into the water instantly turned into stone. The color was excellent, and it was called Kangyu Shi (康于石). *Luyiji* records: In a mountain pavilion in Yongkang County, Wuzhou, there was a dead pine tree. While breaking it, it accidentally fell into the water and turned into stone. Testing untransformed parts in water showed they also transformed; the resulting stone retained the appearance of bark and pine wood but was hard and strong. *Bowuzhi* states: Pine trees originate from stone qi; when stone cracks receive sand, pines grow; after three thousand years, pines transform back into stone. *Yudi Jisheng* records: During the Jianyan era of the Song Dynasty, behind the residence of the Transport Commissioner in Suining Prefecture, there was a "pine stone," which looked like a pine tree externally but was stone internally. Additionally, in Yongchuan County, Chongqing Prefecture, there was Stone Pine Flat, featuring Songhua Shi (松花石 - pine-flower stone), which had a stone texture with pine grain patterns. Some were two or three chi long, large enough to embrace, though found only in mountains within sight of each other, commonly called Lei Shao Song (Thunder-burnt Pine). *Shenxian Zhuan* states that pines transform into stone after three thousand years. *Zhang Lvyi Tusuo* records: Songhua Shi comes in yellow and purple colors, with fine texture. The surface has water-like patterns, pine bark patterns, or knot-ring patterns; it is found in Tiantai Mountain. It is also produced in the northwest, formed when old broken pines fall into stream waters and transform due to earth qi. Some transformations are incomplete, retaining pine substance; for medicinal use, fully transformed stones are preferred. Taking it makes people forget emotions and cease distracting thoughts. It treats Xiangsi Zheng (相思症 - lovesickness). For men and women whose desires are unfulfilled, taking it causes them to abandon their obsessive thoughts.
Zhao Xuemin notes: Songhua Shi represents the transformation of sentient beings into insentient matter, symbolizing the reversal from extreme Yang to Yin. When men and women love and obsess, forming illness, it leads to the deficiency and erratic movement of Junhuo (君火 - Minister Fire/Heart Fire) and Xianghuo (相火 - Official Fire/Kidney Fire), consuming true Yin, causing wild soul and scattered spirit, with the Shen (Spirit) failing to reside in its house. Without using this method of counteracting and turning back to restore peace, it cannot be cured. Its value lies precisely in its chaste and condensed nature, which dissolves delusional attachments. Li Shizhen, in the appendix to "Buhui Mu" (Not-Gray Wood) in the Stone section of *Bencao Gangmu*, stated that pines transformed over long periods are not used medicinally; this likely reflects a lack of deep understanding of its profound mysteries.
