Its flavor is sweet and neutral, non-toxic, obtaining the taste of dry earth at the center of the earth, entering the Foot-Yangming Stomach Earth/Metal. Both nature and flavor descend; it is Yin. The branch of the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian pours into the chest. The Shaoyin Kidney governs the five fluids. When water overflows to form phlegm, phlegm stagnating in the chest generates heat. To treat it: cold nature can clear heat. The Qi of the Yangming Stomach naturally descends; if Qi rebels and ascends, it steams the Lungs causing cough. Bamboo leaves are cold to clear Stomach heat, and sweet-neutral to direct Qi downward.
Prescription:

Taiyang is the cold water meridian. Dry heat in winter causes the Yin essence of the Taiyang meridian not to be stored. Contracting the dry heat Qi of heaven and earth, when spring Wood command arrives, warm disease occurs. Fire nature flares upward, hence much vomiting. Disease in Taiyang meridian causes chills and fever. Zhu Ru is cold in nature to dispel warm fire; sweet in flavor to alleviate flaming fire. Hence it treats these conditions. Spleen controls blood.
