Huangjian Zhongtang (Yellow Cinnamon Twig Decoction), added with Banxiaqu (Pinellia Paste), Sheng Ganjiang (Raw Dried Ginger), and Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), decocted together. Swallow Anshen Wan (Kidney-Nourishing Pill) on an empty stomach to treat cough with sputum, dark complexion, and qi movement pain in the lower abdomen caused by deficiency-cold of the Kidney channel. (From *Zhizhi Fang*)
Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction) is generally applicable for elderly individuals with weak constitution and chronic cough. Intermittently take Yangzheng Dan (Righteousness-Nourishing Pill) (ibid.).
Treating deficiency of both Lung and Stomach, cough with saliva and foam, occasional blood streaks, and inability to eat. Take Siwei Lizhong Tang (Four-Ingredient Spleen-Regulating Decoction), taken down with thickly decocted Bei Wuweizi (North Schisandra) decoction. In cases of chronic cough where excessive phlegm-fluid has been expelled, the Lung becomes deficient. Using Lung-tonifying herbs may damage the Spleen and Stomach; it is better to use herbs like Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) to assist the Spleen, thereby strengthening Earth to generate Metal (Spleen to nourish Lung), ensuring the Lung Qi is stable. (From *Danliao Fang*)
Jiawei Lizhong Tang (Modified Spleen-Regulating Decoction) treats cough due to cold in both Lung and Stomach.
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, not stir-fried), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Fuling (Poria), Juhong (Tangerine Red Peel), Xixin (Asarum), Bei Wuweizi (North Schisandra Berry) [equal parts].

Formula for Cold Cough: For cold cough with thin sputum, temporarily relieved by drinking hot water, Lizhong Tang (Spleen-Regulating Decoction) added with Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) is suitable. (From *Zhu Shi Ji Yan Fang*)
My fellow townsman Shen Liangchen suffered from phlegm-cough, unable to sleep day or night. After changing doctors repeatedly, diagnoses ranged from Wind, Fire, Heat, Qi stagnation, to Dampness, leading to chaotic herbal prescriptions. His condition deteriorated to emaciation and loss of appetite, nearly fatal. His son pleaded for treatment from Zhang Zhihe. Zhang palpated the pulse and said: "The pulse is deep and soggy, indicating damp-phlegm generating cold. The use of cold-cooling herbs has harmed the Spleen. One should use Lizhong Tang (Spleen-Regulating Decoction) added with Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root)." That night he slept peacefully, and subsequent conditioning remedies brought recovery. Some asked: "Why use Fuzi for phlegm?" It is unknown that Dai Yuanli often used Fuzi to treat excessive phlegm, as stated in *Zhengzhi Yaojue*. (From *Xu Yi Shuo*)
Wumei Wan (Mume Pill) treats cough caused by insufficient Qi and Blood, deficiency-cold in the Stomach, which traps damp-heat in the Large Intestine internally. Since the Large Intestine and Lung are exterior-interior partners, treatment should focus on tonifying Qi and Blood and dispersing Stomach cold. (From *Yuanli*)

(From *Yuyao Yuanfang*) (Note: Danxi treated hoarse cough due to blood deficiency and hyperactive fire using Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) and Ge Fen (Clam Shell Powder) ground into powder, bound with honey for sucking. This likely originates from here. All derive from *Yi Shuo* citing *Leibian*: for phlegm-cough with insomnia and floating pulse, use clam shell powder stir-fried red, mixed with a little Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), diluted vinegar water, and a few drops of sesame oil. Refer to this.)

(Liang Guozuo's Effective Formula) (From *Zhu Shi Ji Yan Fang*)
Draining Lung Formulas: A person, tall, dark-skinned, and thin, over forty years old, suffers from cough and wheezing every autumn cool, unable to lie down, recovering in spring warmth. This has persisted for over ten years. Doctors used Zisu (Perilla Leaf), Bohe (Mint), Jingjie (Schizonepeta), Mahuang (Ephedra) to release the exterior, and Sangbaipi (Mulberry Root Bark), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Huashi (Talcum), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) to drain the interior. Although temporarily relieved, it recurred soon. Dr. Wang diagnosed a surging-slippery pulse, indicating internal stagnant heat. Autumn coolness makes skin dense, preventing internal heat from venting, thus triggering illness. Internal heat is the root. Treating the root now, instead using exterior-releasing herbs merely empties the exterior, making one more susceptible to wind-cold; draining interior herbs merely consume fluids, increasing stagnant heat. Thus, Sanbu Wan (Three-Yellow Pill) was used, adding Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome, wine-fried three times), Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb), and Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit) as pills. He was also instructed to take Tun Tan Wan (Rolling Phlegm Pill) 30-50 pills before Liqiu (Start of Autumn) annually. The condition gradually stabilized. (From *Lei An*) (Note: Sanbu Wan (Three-Yellow Pill) consists of Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark).)

For long-term chronic cough, first chew Yafurong (Silken Cotton Tree Flower), only about 1 fen. Then take Shengong San (Divine Merit Powder). For long-standing cough, use Shengong San: Gouqi (Goji Berry), Congrong (Cistanche Stem), Kuaodong (Winter Flower) each 1 liang, divided into four doses. Kushen (Sophora Root) halved. Decoct in water. (Take four ingredients divided into four doses, decoct in water. After taking, fumigate with Yantong San (Smoke Tube Powder). Fumigate 5-6 times consecutively for cure.) Thirty swallows, then the disease heals. To finish three doses, abstain from salt and vinegar for 100 days, one dose daily. Each dose is 3 cun long, finishing one dose in three days. (From *Waitai Mi Yao*) Cui Shi's fumigation method for chronic cough: use only Kuaodonghua (Winter Flower). Someone with chronic cough, Lung deficiency generating cold-heat, burned 3-2 sprigs of Kuaodonghua (Winter Flower). When smoke appeared, inhaled through a brush tube until the mouth was full, then swallowed. Stop when tired. Do this 5-7 times over several days for cure. (From *Benshi Fang Yanyi*) For unresponsive chronic cough, fumigation can be used. Mix Kuaodonghua (Winter Flower) with honey, moisten and bake dry. Place in a spouted pot, burn, inhale smoke and swallow. If chest feels stuffy, raise head, block smoke with finger, pause, then inhale again. (From *Yizong Bidu*)
Moxibustion Method: For chronic cough, moxa on Gaohuang (BL43) is most suitable, followed by Feishu (BL13) and other points, treating according to syndrome. Acute cough does not require moxibustion. (From *Zisheng Jing*)
Treating cough, moxa Tiantu (CV22) and Feishu (BL13), strongly draining Lung Qi. (From *Danxi Xinfa*)
