In the years of Zi and Wu (including Ren-Zi, Ren-Wu, Wu-Zi, Wu-Wu, Jia-Zi, Geng-Zi, Geng-Wu, Bing-Zi, Bing-Wu, Jia-Wu),
Shaoyin Junhuo (Ministerial Fire) governs the Si Tian (Heavenly Qi). This is a period where the annual climate exhibits thermal transformation. "Si Tian" refers to the atmospheric qi of heaven. Yangming Zaojin (Dry Metal) governs the Zai Quan (Earthly Qi). "Zai Quan" refers to the climatic characteristics of the earth.
Junhuo corresponds to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. The Heart is the official of the sovereign, from which Shen Ming (Spiritual Consciousness) emerges. Junhuo is the master of human physiology and the root of Yang Qi; its elemental correspondence is Earth, serving as the source for the generation of all things. When Shaoyin Junhuo governs Si Tian, its transformation manifests as Heat. All phenomena such as intense heat, stifling warmth, and the lush growth of various species are transformations of Junhuo; likewise, the bright shining sunlight warms and nourishes all things. When Heat overflows above, Fire exercises its administration. Below Junhuo, Yin Jing (Essence) acts in subordination and support, thus heavy rains will arrive. The people may suffer from symptoms such as chest irritability and heat, and dry throat. These are caused by Junhuo flaming upward, injuring Lung Metal. Metal Qi governs the right side, hence fullness in the right hypochondrium. According to the *Jing Mai* chapter, changes in urine color, pain in the shoulder, arm, back, and suprasternal fossa, lung distension with bloating, wheezing, and coughing, constitute diseases of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Epistaxis and pain in the anterior shoulder belong to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Since the Lung and Large Intestine are interior-exteriorly related, and Metal is injured by Fire, these pathologies are primarily attributed to the Lung. Chize (LU-5) is the point of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. It is located in the large crease on the medial aspect of the elbow, where the pulse beats palpably. If Metal fails to overcome Fire, Lung Qi will exhaust, the pulse at Chize will cease, leading to death that is incurable. Feathered creatures (birds) belong to Fire, sharing the same qi as Heaven, thus they remain quiet. Armored creatures (shelled animals) belong to Metal, sharing the same qi as Earth, thus they thrive. With Metal Qi dominant on Earth, Wood declines, therefore hair-covered creatures (mammals) fail to conceive or carry pregnancy to term.
Yangming Zaojin governs Zai Quan, representing the earthly climatic condition. Excessive Dryness of Metal overflowing below results in misty, clear, and dim weather. The people may suffer from frequent vomiting, bitter vomiting, frequent sighing, pain in the heart and hypochondrium, inability to turn the body easily, and in severe cases, dry throat, a dusty complexion, loss of luster in the body, and reverse heat in the lateral foot. These are diseases of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. Dry throat and a dusty complexion are diseases of the Jueyin Liver Meridian. This occurs because excessive Metal evil injures the Liver and Gallbladder, resulting in such ailments. Armored creatures belong to Metal, sharing its qi, thus they thrive. Hair-covered creatures belong to Wood, subjected to Metal's control, thus they diminish. The qi of Metal and Fire do not harmonize, therefore feathered creatures fail to reproduce. With Zaojin in Zai Quan, Dryness resides within the earth, thus damp-toxic substances do not generate.
