Ren Zi (Year of Ren Zi) and Ren Wu (Year of Ren Wu):
The Upper position is governed by Shaoyin Junhuo (Ministerial Fire ruling the Heaven Qi), the Middle Yun (Annual Movement) is Taijiao Wood Yun (Excessive Wood Movement), and the Lower position is occupied by Yangming Zaojin (Dry Metal ruling the Earth Qi). The Wood Yun generating the Heaven Qi is called "Xiao Ni" (Minor Rebellion); since Wood generates Fire, the disease is mild.

In Zi and Wu years, Shaoyin Junhuo should advance to govern as the Heaven Qi, while Taiyin Shitu (Damp Earth) acting as the Right Intercalary Qi from the previous year's Earth Qi should ascend to become the Left Intercary Qi for the new year's Heaven Qi. Therefore, it fears Tianchong (Jupiter), as Wood overcomes Earth. If encountering a Ren Zi or Ren Wu year, where Ren represents Excessive Yang Wood with its Qi arriving before the season, the Annual Yun encountering Wood can overcome Earth. Thus, Taiyin Shitu ascends but does not proceed, resulting in "Tu Yu" (Earth Stagnation), caused by Wood's overcoming. Humans suffer spleen diseases; the onset of Earth Stagnation must wait until Earth Qi obtains its proper timing. In Ren Wu year, Gang-Rou (Yin-Yang) fails to maintain order. Depending on severity, it transforms into an epidemic after three years: mild cases manifest in Yi You year, severe cases in Jia Shen year, marking the outbreak of Earth Epidemic. Medicines should include Xiehuang San (Drain Yellow Powder), decocted and taken cool; Wuwendan (Five Plagues Pill) should be ground and taken on an empty stomach at any time. When Wood Qi is strong, people fall ill due to suppressed Spleen and Stomach, presenting symptoms such as jaundice, abdominal fullness, and obstruction. Its movement is like wind drumming, its transformation involves chaotic noises and openings, its variation is violent shaking and uprooting, and its disease is limb fullness, indicating Liver Wood excess.

Wu Zi (Year of Wu Zi, Tian Fu) and Wu Wu (Year of Wu Wu, Taiyi Tian Fu):
The Upper position is governed by Shaoyin Junhuo, the Middle Yun is Taiting Huo Yun (Excessive Fire Movement), and the Lower position is occupied by Yangming Zaojin. When the Yun matches the Heaven Qi, it is called "Tian Fu" (Heaven符/Signature). In Wu Wu year, the Yun arrives at its own positional base, called "Sui Hui" (Year Meeting), as Wu corresponds to the Fire position. Its movement is hot and sultry, its transformation is warm, bright, and stifling. Encountering Taiyang Hanshui Heaven Qi makes it "Re", ShaoYang Xianghuo makes it "Shu", and Shaoyin Junhuo makes it "Yan Shu"; these all refer to the Yun combined with Heaven Qi. Its variation is fierce heat boiling, a change of Taiting. Its disease is upper body hot blood overflow, due to excessive Yang Fire. In these two years, there are many heat syndromes but no epidemics.

Jia Zi (Year of Jia Zi) and Jia Wu (Year of Jia Wu):
The Upper position is governed by Shaoyin Junhuo, the Middle Yun is Taigong Tu Yun (Excessive Earth Movement), and the Lower position is occupied by Yangming Zaojin. When Heaven Qi generates Yun, it is called "Shun Hua" (Smooth Transformation), as Fire generates Earth. Diseases are few that year. Its movement is rainy, its transformation is soft moist timely rain. Its variation is shaking, startling, and sudden drifting, a change of Taigong. Its disease is whole-body heaviness, due to Earth damp stagnation. In Zi and Wu years, Yangming Zaojin should advance to govern as Earth Qi, while Taiyang Hanshui, as the Right Intercalary Qi from the previous year's Heaven Qi, should descend to become the Left Intercary Qi for the new year's Earth Qi. Thus, it fears Difou (Earth Mound), being obstructed by Earth's overcoming. Water Yun descends but is suppressed by Earth Yun. Encountering Excessive Earth Yun arriving early, in Jia Zi and Jia Wu years (excessive Yang Earth), Earth Yun receives and suppresses it, causing descent without entry. The sky shows black Qi, dark and desolate. Just as yellow dust spreads cold and damp, the transformation Qi steams dampness again, delaying descent, leading to latent stagnation. Cold stagnates above while Damp controls it, injuring Spleen and Kidney. People suffer cold jue, heavy and lethargic limbs, impotence and weakness. The sky spreads heavy Yin, with steaming damp alternating. Jia Zi and Jia Wu, Gang-Rou fail to maintain order. After three years, this becomes a great epidemic. Suppressed Water Qi will erupt as Water Epidemic after three years. From Jia Zi to Bing Yin is the first three years; Ding Mao is after three years. Medicine should use Zexie, Zhimu, Qingdai, Xuanshen, Lianqiao, and Tongbian (Child's Urine), each 1 qian, decocted and taken cool; dissolve Wuwendan and mix with Qingdai powder for administration.

Geng Zi (Year of Geng Zi) and Geng Wu (Year of Geng Wu, Tian Xing Year, same as Tian Fu):
The Upper position is governed by Shaoyin Junhuo, the Middle Yun is Taishang Jin Yun (Excessive Metal Movement), and the Lower position is occupied by Yangming Zaojin. In Geng Zi and Geng Wu years, Yun matches Earth Qi, called "Zaojin Taiguo Yun" (Excessive Dry Metal Movement); added to Earth Qi, it is "Tong Tian Fu". Tian Xing year means Fire below overcomes Metal, hence "Bu Xiang De Ze Bing" (Disagreement leads to disease). Although miscellaneous diseases exist, there are no epidemics. This year's Metal Yun is excessive, but controlled by governing Junhuo, so Metal achieves balance, known as "Jian Cheng Zhi Ji" (Record of Firm Completion). Its movement is cool and stiff, its transformation is misty and dewy bleakness, its variation is solemn killing and withering, its disease is lower body clear discharge (referring to clear urination/defecation and cold lower body, a Metal Qi disease).

Bing Zi (Year of Bing Zi, Sui Hui) and Bing Wu (Year of Bing Wu, Weather Disharmonious Year):
The Upper position is governed by Shaoyin Junhuo, the Middle Yun is Taiyu Shui Yun (Excessive Water Movement), and the Lower position is occupied by Yangming Zaojin. In Bing Zi year, Yun reaches its native position, called "Sui Hui", as Zi is Water position. Yun overcoming Heaven Qi is called "Bu He" (Disaccord). Water overcomes Fire, so disease is severe. Though many miscellaneous diseases occur, there are no epidemics. Its movement is cold, its transformation is congealed, miserable, and biting cold, its variation is ice, snow, frost, and hail. Clouds rush to the Rain Mansion, Wet transformation proceeds, timely rain falls. This is the meaning of Yangming ruling Earth, extreme dryness yielding moisture. People suffer cough and asthma, blood overflow and leakage, nasal congestion, sneezing, red eyes, ulcers, cold jue entering Stomach, heart pain, waist pain, abdominal distension, dry painful throat, etc.

First Qi: Guest Qi is Taiyang Hanshui, adding to Jueyin usage. Earth Qi migrates, heat departs. Last year's Yihai ShaoYang final Qi ends here. Cold begins, hibernating creatures hide, water freezes, frost descends, wind arrives, Yang Qi stagnates. Cold Water Qi guests before Spring, hence such weather. People wrap tightly, joints stiffen, sacrum pain, heat rises, internal and external sores (Cold causes disease. However, Shaoyin Junhuo rules Heaven, and it is also the Second Qi Main Qi, so heat rises, causing internal/external sores).

Second Qi: Yang Qi spreads, wind moves, Spring Qi is correct, all things flourish, cold Qi arrives, people harmonize. Wind Wood Guest Qi adds to Junhuo Main Qi, so Yang Qi winds with Spring Qi, things flourish. Governing Junhuo is not yet strong, so cold Qi arrives; Water and Fire correspond to time, so people are harmonious. Disease includes stranguria, red eyes, Qi stagnating above with heat, caused by Junhuo.

Third Qi: Guest Qi Junhuo governs Heaven, adding to Xianghuo Main Qi, so Great Fire moves, all classes multiply and shine. Extreme Fire brings Water back, extreme Heat generates Cold, so Cold Qi arrives. Disease includes Qi jue and heart pain, alternating cold and heat, cough, asthma, red eyes, Two Fires blazing together.

Fourth Qi: Both Guest and Main Qi are Wet Earth functioning, so it is muggy heat, heavy rain arrives, cold and heat alternate. Disease includes cold/heat, dry throat, jaundice, nasal congestion, epistaxis, thirst/drinking, Wet-Heat diseases.

Fifth Qi: Wei Huo (Xianghuo) arrives, heat returns, Yang transforms, all things grow, lengthen, flourish, people are healthy. (Wei Huo is Xianghuo; when Autumn comes, Yang transforms, so things flourish and people are healthy.)

Final Qi: Dry command acts, Dry Metal Guest Qi adds to Cold Water Main Qi, Metal Qi gathers, so residual Fire from Fifth Qi is internally blocked, causing cough/asthma, severe blood overflow. Frequent Cold Qi raises fog/haze, all transformations of Metal and Water.

Chou Wei Years (Ding Chou, Ding Wei, Xin Chou, Xin Wei, Gui Chou, Ji Chou, Ji Wei, Yi Chou, Yi Wei, Gui Wei):
Taiyin Shitu governs Heaven, annual Qi is Wet Transformation. Heaven Qi is Heaven's Qi. Taiyang Hanshui governs Earth, Earth Qi is Earth's Qi. Wet Earth refers to Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. Spleen governs Central Wu-Ji Earth, prospering 18 days per season, totaling 72 days, corresponding to 360 days of a year. Taiyin governing Heaven, Earth Qi in Heaven is Wet Transformation. All cloud/rain nourishment and fluid enrichment are Earth's transformation. Wet flooding above causes heavy rain changes. Soaking causes damage, so objects wither. People suffer swelling/pain, all due to Earth overwhelming Water, Kidney Meridian disease. According to Jingmai Pian: Waist/spine/head/neck pain indicates Foot Taiyang Bladder disease. Hunger without desire to eat, bloody sputum, heart hanging empty indicates Foot Shaoyin Kidney disease. Kidney and Bladder are exterior-interior; Water overcome by Earth, so all diseases originate in Kidney. Taixi point is Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, located behind medial malleolus on heel bone artery pulsation. If Water cannot overcome Earth, Kidney Qi exhausts, Taixi pulse vanishes, death is incurable. In Chou/Wei years, Luo Chong (Naked Creatures) belong to Earth, matching Heaven Qi, so they remain quiet and unharmed. Lin Chong (Scale/Qilin Creatures) belong to Water, matching Earth Qi, so they breed. Abundant Earth Qi weakens Fire, so Yu Chong (Feathered Creatures) fail to conceive.

Taiyang Hanshui governs Earth, Cold floods below, causing freezing solemnity. People suffer lower abdomen pulling to testicles, drawing to waist/spine, rushing up to heart pain, throat pain, jaw swelling, bleeding (Cold below injures its kind, Bladder and Kidney receive it. Bladder in abdomen causes lower abdominal pain; Kidney governs scrotum, hence pulling testicles; Taiyang meridian flanks spine to waist, hence drawing waist/spine; Kidney meridian connects to Heart, hence rushing heart pain; Heart governs Blood, Cold forces it, hence bleeding. Throat/jaw pain is Small Intestine Meridian disease, also Water evil insulting Fire). Lin Chong belong to Water, matching Qi, so they breed. Yu Chong belong to Fire, controlled by it, so they diminish. Water and Earth Qi do not combine, so Luo Chong do not breed. Taiyang Hanshui governs Earth, Cold in ground, so heat-toxic substances do not generate.
