This syndrome is caused by rebellious Qi leading to stagnant blood, and the upward attack of foul blood on the Heart. It mostly arises from clashing anger, or melancholy causing Qi stagnation that fails to disperse, or injury from raw and cold food after rage, or contraction of cold-dampness after sexual exertion. This results in symptoms such as mental confusion, palpitations with shortness of breath, throat obstruction with Qi rebellion, vomiting and hiccups with nausea, dizziness of head and eyes, fullness and stuffiness in the chest and diaphragm, stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, pain in the hypochondrium, lower back, and back, headache and brain pain, bitter taste in the mouth and dry tongue, cyanosis of the face and black lips, heaviness and fatigue of the four limbs, soreness and pain in all joints, aversion to cold with high fever, numbness of the whole body, cold extremities, tremors, silence without speaking, and loss of appetite. All these symptoms are caused by foul blood attacking the Heart. In ancient times, there was no specific treatment method; only needling the blue veins above the Quchi (LI11) acupoint on both hands to release stasis could cure it. However, if one suffers repeatedly and needles repeatedly, it cannot be eradicated. Humans rely primarily on Qi and Blood; therefore, Zhu Danxi said: When Qi and Blood are harmonious, hundred diseases do not arise. This disease first injures externally, and subsequently damages the Blood. Therefore, a formula is formulated, named Baihu Wan (White Tiger Pill). "Baihu" refers to the Metal of the West Lung, while "blue veins" represent the Wood of the East Liver. Using Baihu to treat blue veins relies on the principle that Metal controls Wood, which contains profound logic. It can replace the suffering of acupuncture and prevent recurrence. It also treats chronic dysentery with bloody stools in men, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea in women, and all kinds of internal injuries from falls and blows where blood cannot dissipate, causing severe heart and abdominal pain nearly causing death; taking it yields miraculous effects.
Baihu Wan (White Tiger Pill)
Qiannian Duanshi (Millennium Calcined Stone), any amount. Scrape off the outer impure soil, grind into fine powder, process by water flotation, and make pills with paste the size of sesame seeds. Take fifty pills each time, delivered with distilled liquor (Shaojiu), adjusting dosage according to severity. If taken at the initial stage, one dose will take effect. After three to five days when the pathogen has weakened, it is advisable to take more.
Songfeng's Note: The original prescription notes that this medicine can regulate Qi, dissipate blood stasis, resolve phlegm, and eliminate stagnation. Thus, it can be used flexibly for Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder) and Sha Zheng (Sand Syndrome). However, delivering it with Shaojiu (distilled liquor) is uniquely suitable for Blue Vein Syndrome. This is because Blue Vein Syndrome is mostly caused by raw, cold, and damp pathogens. For heat syndromes, it can be delivered with cold water or cold tea; for Qi stagnation, with Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) water; for food stagnation, with Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) water. One should adapt flexibly according to the symptoms.
