Baohe Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill) consists of Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) and Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), with added Lingzhi (Poria), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Qiaokua (Forsskaoleae Herba, often interpreted as Lianqiao in this context but text says Qiaokua/Lianqiao mix - *Correction*: Text says "Ling Xia Chen Qiao Fu Zi", where Qiao refers to Lianqiao/Forsythiae Fructus). It is made into pills using Shenqu paste and taken with Maiya (Maltis Decoctum); Maita can also be used within the formula. [Shanzha (pitted) 3 liang, Shenqu, Lingzhi, Banxia each 1 liang, Fuzi (Radish Seed, i.e., Laifuzi) (lightly stir-fried), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) each 5 qian. Shanzha digests meat accumulation, Maita digests grain accumulation, Shenqu aids digestion and resolves alcohol toxicity, Laifuzi directs qi downward, Shenqu and Lingzhi promote dampness drainage, Lianqiao dissipates nodules, Chenpi and Banxia strengthen the spleen and transform phlegm. This addresses internal injury from food where qi has not yet severely pathologically changed; thus, only mild agents are used to digest and resolve accumulation, without need for purgation or tonification.] Adding Baizhu (2 liang) to Taian Wan yields remarkable effects for treating Zhongxiao (Middle Jiao Consumption) with simultaneous tonification.
Sancunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) combined with Chenpi, Zhishi, Shanzha, and Maita. Made into pills with Shenqu paste and taken with rice drink; suitable for cases requiring both reduction and tonification due to weak stomach. [Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (earth-fried) each 2 liang, Chenpi, Maita (stir-fried) each 1 liang, Shanzha 1.5 liang, Zhishi (Stellariae Fructus, actually Atractylodis Discatae Fructus/Zhishi) (bran-fried) 3 liang. Chenpi and Zhishi regulate qi and eliminate stagnation, Shanzha digests meat, Shenqu and Maita digest grains, Renshen and Baizhu benefit qi and strengthen the spleen.] Ji Gu's Zhizhu Wan (Zhishi and Atractylodes Pill) also combines reduction and tonification, with equal parts of [Baizhu (earth-fried)] and [Zhishi (bran-fried)]. Using lotus leaves to wrap old rice, roasting until dry, and forming pills miraculously ascends the stomach qi. (Lotus leaf wraps old rice, roasted dry into pills, guiding stomach qi and Shaoyang qi upward.)
Xiangsha Liujun San (Aromatic and Amomum Six Gentlemen Powder) adds Bian Dou, Chenpi, Shanyao, Gancao, Lianrou, Sharen, Yiren. (These herbs promote qi movement and strengthen the spleen.) Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) floats upward (carrying medicinal properties up) and protects the lungs (preventing drying herbs from ascending excessively). Taking it with jujube decoction benefits the spleen magically. [Renshen, Lingzhi, Baizhu (earth-fried), Chenpi, Shanyao, Gancao (honey-fried) each 1 jin, Bian Dou (stir-fried) 12 liang, Lianrou (stir-fried), Sharen, Yiren (stir-fried), Jiegeng each 0.5 jin, all ground into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with jujube decoction or rice drink.]
Dong Yuan's Zhishi Xiaopi Wan contains the complete Sancunzi Tang, plus Maita, Banxia Qu, Houpo, Ganjiang, Huanglian. Made into pills with steamed biscuit paste to eliminate accumulation and fullness, clear heat, break stagnation, and cure deficiency. [Huanglian (ginger-juice fried) 5 qian, Renshen, Baizhu (earth-fried), Banxia Qu, Houpo (ginger-juice fried), Lingzhi each 3 qian, Gancao (honey-fried), Ganjiang each 2 qian. Huanglian and Zhishi are the sovereign herbs for treating Pi (glomus/fullness); Maita, Banxia, Ganjiang, and Houpo warm the stomach and dissipate fullness; Renshen, Baizhu, Lingzhi, and Gancao dry dampness and tonify the spleen, ensuring sufficient qi and spleen transportation, thereby resolving the Pi.]
