(From *Yan Shi Ji Sheng Fang*) Treats malaria mass (a lump or mass formed in the body due to chronic, unresolved malaria). It consists of equal parts of Gancao (Licorice Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Shaoyao (White Peony Root), and Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome). Cao Guo (Tsaoko Fruit), Binglang (Areca Seed), and Houpo (Magnolia Bark) are added, and the mixture is decocted with Wumei (Mume Fruit), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and Dazao (Jujube). [Biejia (Vinegar-processed Turtle Shell), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), Baizhu (Earth-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Gancao (Licorice Root), Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome), Shaoyao (Wine-processed White Peony Root), Cao Guo (Flour-roasted Tsaoko Fruit), and Binglang (Areca Seed) are used in equal parts. Add three slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), two Jujubes (Zao Ren), and a small amount of Wumei (Mume Fruit) for decoction. Biejia (Turtle Shell) belongs to Yin and enters the Lung Meridian; it reduces fever and dissipates nodules, serving as the Sovereign herb. Gancao (Licorice Root), Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) assist Yang and tonify Qi; Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome) and Shaoyao (White Peony Root) nourish Blood and harmonize Yin; Cao Guo (Tsaoko Fruit) warms the Stomach; Binglang (Areca Seed) breaks up accumulations; Houpo (Magnolia Bark) disperses fullness; Gancao (Licorice Root) harmonizes the Middle Jiao; Wumei (Mume Fruit) has an astringent property; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Dazao (Jujube) harmonize Ying and Wei.]
(From *Lan Shi Mi Cang*, Ge Hua Jie Cheng Tang) Contains Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Sharen (Amomum Fructus), Fuling (Poria), Zhuling (Polyporus), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Doukou (Cardamom Fructus), Qingpi (Green Tangerina Peel), and Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel). Combined with Shenqu (Medicated Leaven), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), and Zexie (Alisma Rhizome), it is a precious formula for treating damage from alcohol consumption involving middle-jiao deficiency-cold and dampness retention. [Ge Hua (Flos Puerariae), Sharen (Amomum Fructus), and Doukou (Cardamom Fructus) each 1 qian; Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) 1 fen; Fuling (Poria), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Stir-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Qingpi (Green Tangerina Peel), and Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel) each 4 fen; Shenqu (Medicated Leaven - stir-fried), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Zhuling (Polyporus), and Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) each 5 fen. It specifically treats alcohol accumulation accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea, and epigastric stuffiness. Sharen (Amomum Fructus), Doukou (Cardamom Fructus), and Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) can all resolve alcohol toxicity; Qingpi (Green Tangerina Peel), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), and Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) promote Qi movement and warm the middle; Ge Hua (Flos Puerariae) guides damp-heat out through the muscles and interstices; Fuling (Poria) and Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) guide damp-heat out via urination; supplemented by Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) to consolidate Middle Qi.]
Eleven main formulas, eight supplementary formulas included.
(From Li Dongyuan's Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang) Composed of Huangqi (Astragalus Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), and Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel), plus Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Danggui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root). [Huangqi (Honey-processed Astragalus Root) 1.5 qian; Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Gancao (Roasted Licorice Root) each 1 qian; Baizhu (Earth-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Chenpi (Citrus Reticulata Peel with white pith retained), and Danggui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root) each 5 fen; Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) each 3 fen. Decoct with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Dazao (Jujube). For exterior deficiency, Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) should be processed with honey water. Li Dongyuan stated: Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) have light scent and ascending nature; they can guide the clear Qi of the Spleen and Stomach upward into the Yin channels, thereby assisting the harmonious energy of Spring; they also guide Renshen (Ginseng Root), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), and Gancao (Licorice Root) upward to fill the Couli (interstices), making the defensive exterior firm. Any method of tonifying Spleen and Stomach Qi that is often referred to as "ascending Yang and tonifying Qi" refers to this formula.] It excels uniquely in treating deficiency consumptive diseases and internal injury, and also treats external contraction caused by Yang deficiency. (For individuals with weak constitutions suffering from colds, when dispersing methods are not suitable, this formula can be substituted, or acrid-dispersing herbs may be added.) If Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) replace Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), it is named Tiao Zhong Yi Qi Tang, which regulates the middle and promotes the spirit of the Spleen. (Removing Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and adding Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizome) creates Tiao Zhong Yi Qi Tang. Adding Shaoyao (White Peony Root) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit) to the previous formula creates a balance between dispersing and astringing, also named Tiao Zhong Yi Qi Tang; both are formulas by Li Dongyuan.)
